Facial Steaming For Clear Pores and Improved Circulation - Use Organic Herbs Effectively and Safely

Contrary to popular belief, pores do not open nor do they close. Pores contract when exposed to cold air and expand when exposed to heat. Pores do, however, fill up with dirt, toxins and debris. Weekly steaming of the pores helps to keep them clean and free flowing. The heat from the steam liquefies hardened sebum, allowing it to drain away. Once the pores are freed of hardened sebum, they are better able to absorb beneficial masques and other skin care treatments.

Adding appropriate herbs to water used for facial steaming is an excellent way to deliver the all natural benefits of each herb to the skin in a gentle, safe and effective manner. Facial steaming also helps to improve blood circulation and softens the skin. If you would like to add weekly steaming to your skin care regimen, be sure that you use only certified organic herbs! You do not want to inhale the pesticides used to grow non-organic produce when you are steaming your face. Chamomile, peppermint, rooibos, rose and rosemary are all wonderful herbs to use for facial steaming. Research each herb and see which one serves your purposes best.

To effectively and safely steam your face, add about 3 inches of purified or filtered water to a large, clean pot. Place the herbs of your choice in the water and slowly bring it to a boil. While the water is boiling, secure your hair off your face and cleanse your skin thoroughly, with the appropriate cleanser for your skin type. Once the water has reached the boiling point, stir it, cover it and reduce the heat to low. Allow the herbs to simmer for approximately 5 minutes and then turn the heat off. Place the pot on your table, on top of a heat resistant pad and remove the cover. Allow the water to cool down for about 5 minutes. If the water is too hot, you will scald or burn your skin, so be sure to allow the water to cool sufficiently.

Lean over the pot and drape a large, clean towel over your head, forming a tent. Be sure not to lean too close to the water and be careful that you do not burn yourself of the pot! Keep your eyes closed and steam your pores for at least 5 minutes. You can steam for longer if you can tolerate it, but do not exceed 10 minutes. When you are done, pat your face dry with the towel and carefully discard the water: Do not drink it! The liquefied contents from your pores are now floating in the water, so this is not a tea you would want to drink.

Post steaming is an excellent time to apply a clay, organic fruit or mineral mud masque: Your pores are cleared of hardened sebum and debris, so the ingredients from the masque of your choice can sink deep into the pores and work more effectively. If you do not wish to apply a masque at this time, simply tone and apply your favorite moisturizer: The steam bath will ensure that all of your beauty products sink deep into the skin. Happy steaming!
