Fructose Malabsorption and Fructose Intolerance - The Cause May Be From Drinking Fruit Concentrates

An article on the Gluten Free Pages site looks at how the increase in celiac disease victims could be caused by farmers over the last few hundred years purposely selecting varieties of grains that have abnormally high gluten levels. The purpose being to provide grains that will be turned into high gluten flours to assist bakers in keeping their breads and cakes together.

In a similar vein, consider that people who eat too much calorie rich food are prone to increased likelihoods of acquiring diabetes 2. Its not necessarily the foods, but the amount or concentrations that cause both diseases.

Organic Fruit

Some allergy reactions are believed to be traced to an increases in environmental pollutants lowering people's resistance to certain allergies and diseases (changes in immune functioning). It appears that fructose malabsorptionand fructose intolerance may also be linked to a very simple 'accidental' increase in the concentration of fructose in certain foods in our diets. However, unlike the intentional increase in high concentration gluten grains, this increase in fructose has not been caused by a quest by farmers to pack more fructose into their fruits, the cause is seemingly further downstream.

While the following information is taken from a LA TIME article about the concerns of the over-consumption of fruit juice in our diets being linked to obesity, it also provides a good base for my fructose conspiracy theory.

The logic goes a little like this:

1 In World War II, the US Army commissioned scientists to invent a system for freezing OJ in a concentrated form. The result was the "Minute Maid" patent that created cans of frozen juice concentrate.

2 In the 1950s, Tropicana developed pasteurization technology so that juice could be sold in refrigerated cartons like milk.

3 US TV fitness pioneer Jack LaLanne and other health experts branded juice as a natural medicine, and decades of advertising made drinking juice concentrate a staple in our diet.

4 By the 1900s, Florida citrus growers harvested more oranges than they could sell - and because you can easily drink the juice of many more oranges than you can eat whole, they decided to sell high concentrations of juice in many drinks including cola sodas. This push to sell fructose heavy drinks in the US soon spread around the world.

Consider that "when fructose is eaten in a piece of fruit, it enters the body slowly so the liver has time to convert it into chemical energy. But a single glass of apple juice has the fructose of six apples." Ref 1

Besides the bulk increase of fructose density that our bodies were never meant to consume, the concentrates also lead to obesity concerns which can lead to diabetes 2. Curiously as US and Australian schools are outlawing soda drinks in school vending machines, juice drinks are taking their place (which have equal calories and often more fructose).

While juice does add vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients to our diet, fruit does the same, in much more appropriate concentrations. Raw fruit also contains many other nutrients that do not survive many drink manufacturing processes.

"A glass of juice concentrates all the sugar from several pieces of fruit. Ounce per ounce, it contains more calories than soda, though it tends to be consumed in smaller servings. A cup of orange juice has 112 calories, apple juice has 114, and grape juice packs 152, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The same amount of Coke has 97 calories, and Pepsi has 100." 100% fruit juice poses the same obesity-related health risks as Coke, Pepsi and other widely vilified beverages. Ref 1

Now most of the main reference article is written with a view to warning people about the affects of concentrated fruit juice on weight gain, however as a fructose intolerance or malabsorptionperson should now understand, drinking fruit juice (concentrate) can directly relate to how you may have acquired your condition in the first place.

The author of this GFP article loves fruit and realises that this affair was fostered in childhood where his father grew many varieties of fruit trees in his home yard. As many people do not have this background it is easy to understand that parents with guilty consciences may think that substituting juice concentrate regularly into a diet is a clever way of getting 'healthy food' easily into everyone's diet. However an overdose of concentrate is equivalent to an overdose of fructose, which "may" contribute to the early onset of fructose intolerance or malabsorption.

As a society we are much more aware of the way that all types of fats need to be controlled in our diets, however 'good' sugar variety levels are much lesser known and fructose can be concealed in many sources. It may be that adding fruit juice concentrate to your diet just exceeds the healthy daily allowance of fructose from all sources.

Consider the following list of "Foods highest in Fructose" (based on levels per 200-Calorie serving) that Ref 2 has compiled:

1 Carbonated beverage, cola, with higher caffeine [pop, soda, soft drink] Fructose: 29760mg

2 Carbonated beverage, cola, without caffeine [pop, soda, soft drink] Fructose: 29760mg

3 Carbonated beverage, lemon-lime soda, contains caffeine [pop, soft drink, white soda] Fructose: 28634mg

9 Carbonated beverage, SPRITE, lemon-lime, without caffeine [pop, soft drink, white soda] Fructose: 25954mg

10 Juice, apple and grape blend, with added ascorbic acid Fructose: 25837mg

FIVE of the TOP TEN FRUCTOSE CULPRITS ARE SODA DRINKS AND FRUIT JUICE CONCENTRATE.

CONCLUSION

Now consider the radical concept of avoiding high density gluten grains and products to starve off the risk of acquiring gluten intolerance (this may not help reducing the chance of acquiring coeliac / celiac disease as much as this is believed to be gene related). To avoid fructose intolerance, perhaps sticking to a non soda, non fruit juice concentrate diet is a good idea. Particularly as many drinks do not specify what type of sugar is included, nor do many people know what a 'safe' level of fructose in concentrate should be.

Imagine something that has been promoted for decades as a health panacea actually causing an illness, just because of its high concentration levels. With the high cost of fruit, and in particular organic fruit, it is easy to understand how buying fruit juice concentrate may seem like a healthy alternative. While the concept of avoiding or limiting juice concentrate in your diet and children's diet may seem controversial I recommend that you read the article in the reference in full and make up your own mind.

Organic Fruit Baskets Are A Practical Gift

If you are trying to find something for the picky people on your holiday list this year, why not think about practical and delicious organic fruit baskets? There are many different varieties of baskets that can be given out as gifts and stores that sell them usually take specialized orders for an extra cost as well. This is one of the best gifts that you can give the hard to please people on your lists, as organic fruit is quite simply an excellent gift to receive. Very few people will turn down a great gift like this, as it is both wonderful tasting and healthy.

It might be helpful for you to know which specific fruits the person you are giving the organic fruit baskets actually likes. It is also a good idea to ensure that the person does not have any specific allergies to any fruits in general.

Organic Fruit

Seasonal Mixes

Many of the organic fruit baskets that you will find today are created with the fruit that is in season currently. Whatever is simple to get either from your own location or one that is not too distant, will allow the cost of the baskets to remain reasonable. If you are going to get into fruits that are not in season or do not originate from your area, you will be looking at more expensive options. This is not to say that the baskets will be too costly, it simply implies that you may have to pay a bit more for the fruits that are exotic or out of season. Fruits such as mangos, kiwi and star fruit will be not only seasonal but considered exotic. This means that they will be more costly than the likes of oranges, apples and pears.

Sometimes you can find a deal through the store you are purchasing from, as they will attempt to get these baskets noticed by customers. Great sales or inexpensive basket choices could in fact bring people in and increase sales as a whole.

Online Orders

Many places today that sell organic fruit baskets, will offer these baskets online. You can find many web stores that will allow you to place and order and have it shipped to a location of your choosing. This is very similar to ordering flowers for someone over the phone or by way of the Internet. You can have more option when you elect to order your baskets this way, as this is usually where the baskets are put together in a wholesale produce type of environment. The people putting the baskets together will have all of the fruit that they need to complete the order right in the warehouse.

This makes it very simple to get the organic fruit baskets that you want and then the company can simply ship the basket off same day or overnight. Convenience and practicality meet a healthy gift giving alternative, for today's picky gift getters. You will feel good about what you gave and they will appreciate the thought just as much.

Taste Organic Food With A Fruit Salad

Organic food has so much more flavor than conventional produce. Conventional peaches can be extremely mealy with little or no flavor. Caution: eating organic peaches can turn you into a peach snob! There are worlds of difference in flavor between organic and conventional peaches, not to mention other fruits.

Fruit is such a great dessert, because it curbs your sweet tooth and boosts your daily fresh fruit intake. We should eat at least five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Some doctors say eight.

Organic Fruit

Organic food not only has more flavor, but it is healthier for you and the planet. Organic fruits are cultivated using no pesticides, which decreases your risk of cancer and retains rich soil quality for generations to come.

Ingredients:

2 organic bananas

2 oz. organic strawberries

2 oz. organic blueberries

2 organic peaches

Slice bananas into medium-sized bowl. Rinse strawberries and blueberries, then pat them dry with a towel. Cut strawberries into quarters. Add strawberries and blueberries to bananas in bowl. Using a knife, carefully cut around the entire circumference of a peach. Twist the two halves in opposite directions until they come apart. Now use the knife in the same manner to slice each piece in half again. The peach pit may be easy to remove, or you may have to coax it out by cutting around it, depending on how ripe the peach is. Your mouth will water in direct proportion to how juicy the peach is! Cut each peach quarter into three chunks.

Add peaches to the mix and gently fold with a large spoon. This fruit salad serves two.

Blueberries are bursting with vitamin C, manganese and vitamin E. They are also packed with the antioxidant anthocyanidin, which neutralizes free radical damage to collagen cells and tissues, helping reduce your risk of cancer.

Bananas contain loads of potassium, which is very helpful in reducing blood pressure, heart attacks and leg cramps. Bananas are also chocked full of vitamin C, A1, B6, magnesium, iron and tryptophan. Vitamin B6 regulates blood glucose levels, and tryptophan is a natural mood-calming chemical. So bananas are terrific for dissipating PMS, depression and seasonal affective disorder!

And those little strawberries pack a lot of vitamins! They're brimming with 130 percent the daily requirement of vitamin C! And that's not to mention also containing vitamin K, potassium, folate, vitamin B2, vitamin B5, and even omega 3 fatty acids.

As for peaches, they not only drip with flavor, but they contain vitamin C, vitamin A, iron and even calcium. Vitamin A promotes healthy vision, skin and teeth--and even boosts the immune system.

With a mouth-watering fruit salad made from organic food ingredients that's just bursting with vitamins and flavor, who needs sugar?

Pesticides on Fruit and Vegetables - Facts You Ought to Know

Pesticides are such a natural feature of modern-living that we take them for granted. We might hear how dangerous they are, but more often than not, we simply choose to ignore these warnings or conveniently put them at the least of our concerns. Environmentalists constantly warn us that these chemicals we use to control, repel or kill pests and is commonly used on all food crops, including fruits and vegetables such as apples, pears, peaches, grapes, cherries, strawberries, potatoes and spinach are highly toxic and dangerous to our health and that of our children. Still we take no heed.

If you are reading this and are at all concerned about the safety of your loved ones, then make sure that you completely internalize and understand these two dangers of pesticides on fruits and veggies explained below so you become wiser and more alert the next time you get ingredients for your smoothie or your green salad:

Organic Fruit

1. Fruits and vegetables grown with pesticides still contain residues even after they are washed or peeled. When ingested, pesticides build up in the fat deposits of your body where they can cause serious damage. Children are more prone to these health risks because their immune systems are still developing. In fact, residues of the pesticides malathion and chlorpyrifos which are banned for home use but are still widely used on a variety of crops are still routinely detected in food items commonly consumed by young children as revealed by an annual survey by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Pesticide Data Program. In a study of 23 elementary students in the Seattle area whose conventional diets were monitored then replaced with organic diets and were later returned to their conventional diets, project leader Dr. Chensheng Lu reveals a very interesting fact: "Immediately after substituting organic food items for the children's normal diets, the concentration of the organophosphorus pesticides found in their bodies decreased substantially to non-detectable levels until the conventional diets were re-introduced."

2. Pregnant and nursing women who naturally consume more fruits and vegetables out of a sheer desire to carry a healthy pregnancy but unknowingly eat those grown using pesticides can pass them on to their unborn and nursing children. These can have adverse affects in the growing child's nervous and immune systems. Among these include birth defects, skin and eye irritation, brain tumors, childhood leukemia, Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, other cancers, hormone or endocrine system problems, nervous system damage, lower body weights and a less developed immune system.

Thus, before you pick anything from the grocery shelves, make sure that you check that the produce you get is grown organically. Apples, peaches, pears, red raspberries, strawberries, cherries, nectarines, imported grapes, bell peppers, potatoes, celery and spinach are the usual vegetables grown with the aid of pesticides. Get them organic whenever you can. Conversely, asparagus, avocados, bananas, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi, mangoes, onions, pineapples and sweet peas are safer for consumption since they have low pesticide levels. Sweet corn and papaya may be included in this list but make sure that what you're getting is not GMO.

Organic Food Benefits - Why Eating Organic is Better For You

A four year European Union funded study highlighting organic food benefits, found that organic fruit and vegetables contain up to 40 percent more antioxidants and organic produce had higher levels of beneficial minerals like zinc and iron. Organic juices, for example, have far more antioxidants than their conventional counterparts. However, the findings from this study only confirmed what most people regard as commonsense- foods grown in mineral rich soil with natural fertilizers and no chemicals, simply have to be more nutritious. Many of the pesticides, herbicides, hormones, and other chemicals used in conventional food production have been linked to cancer, immune suppression and a host of other degenerative diseases that accompany immune suppression.

What Types of Organic Foods Are Best

Organic Fruit

Simply put, you should stick with foods that come directly from nature. Your vegetables, fruits, nuts, meats, and grains should be in their natural, unadulterated form or as close to it as possible. The bulk of your organic purchases should focus on vegetables and fruits. When buying meat, eggs, and dairy products, make sure that these are from animals that are pastured or grass-fed and not from confining, factory farms.

Meat, eggs, and dairy products from pastured animals will give you the best organic food benefits. When compared to feed-lot, confining factory farm commercial products, they offer you more "good" fats, and fewer "bad" fats. They are richer in antioxidants; including vitamins E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. In addition, they do not contain traces of added hormones, antibiotics or other drugs.

Be aware that not all organic foods are created equal; the organic label has been greatly compromised in recent years. Consequently, you have to be very leery of major super centers and supermarkets which have been adding their compromised version of organic foods to their shelves. Potato chips and sodas are still bad for you regardless of whether or not they are labeled organic and you cannot get any organic food benefits from eating them. The organic food industry is a huge multi-billion dollar business and many unscrupulous manufacturers are simply out take advantage of people's desires to eat healthier and live healthier lives by placing compromised or outright false versions of organic products on grocery shelves.

Genetically Modified Foods Disguised as Organic

You also have to be aware of organic food that is genetically modified. You will not get any organic food benefits from genetically modified foods disguised as organic. This is outright deception. By some estimates as much as seventy percent of the foods that are available to us today are genetically modified. The best way to be sure you are not purchasing organic food that is genetically modified is to look for the USDA seal. The USDA organic seal ensures that growers of organic produce adhere to very strict organic standards in their farming practices. Manufacturers who use this seal also have to adhere to these strict organic standards.

Another way to determine if you are buying genetically modified food is to look at the PLU code. Genetically modified foods have 5 digits beginning with #8. For example, GM orange 84072. Foods that are organically grown have 5 digits starting with #9. For example, organic orange 94231. Foods that are conventionally grown have a four digit code. For example, conventionally grown orange 4057.

The Environmental Working Group published the findings of a study in which they identified produce with the highest and lowest levels of pesticides. This should help you make smarter choices as you shop for food. If you are concerned about organic food benefits you should avoid thin skinned produce such as peaches, nectarines, strawberries, celery, bell peppers, kale, lettuce, grapes, carrots and pear as these have the highest pesticide residues.

If you are buying conventionally grown produce here are your best choices provided they are not genetically modified: onion, avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, papaya, watermelon, broccoli, tomato, and sweet potato.

Organic Fertilizer

You may not have a huge farm in your backyard but you still want to use organic fertilizer to help grow those vegetables. The fertilizer you put into your soil is very important in growing environmentally safe veggies we can eat without worrying about harmful fertilizers, pesticides, and chemicals. Organic fertilizers just don't help the vegetables you will eat but also help keep your flowers beautiful. What you put into your soil is what you will get out of it, if you put in chemical induced fertilizers you may regret it.

There are various ways to create an organic fertilizer with grass clippings, weeds (after they are dead), leaves from trees, and food waste such as egg shells, vegetable/fruit peelings, and coffee grounds. You don't just throw the organic and natural fertilizers where you want your vegetables and flowers to grow and hope for the best, you have to make sure all these organic materials decompose first which typically takes 1-4 months. This type of fertilizer should stay moist so add water to it periodically. Some more of the "hardcore" methods or organically fertilizers your soil is horse manure, alfalfa pellets, blood meal, and agricultural molasses.

Organic Fruit

If you don't want to make your own type of this fertilizer you can go to the store and buy some pre-made organic fertilizer with no problem. Depending on how much organic fertilizer you will need will depend on your specific situation. To create and maintain a healthy garden of any sort takes A LOT of work so be prepared to run trial and error tests to see what works and doesn't.

Growing Organic Tomato Plants

Growing tomato plants is the most popular choice of individual gardeners for their home gardens. The plants are easy to grow and yield delicious fruit that can be incorporated into many foods or eaten raw. But many gardeners worry about pesticides and unnatural fertilizers and the effect these may have on the plants and the people who eat them. Some gardeners therefore choose growing tomato plants organically.

The key to growing anything organically is to avoid things like pesticides that contain unnatural chemical elements. Organic tomatoes should be grown in a warm sunny location. This can be anything from a container inside the home to a pot hung upside down to in the ground outside in a traditional garden. They should be given ample water as they grow.

Organic Fruit

Different types of tomatoes grow better or worse in different parts of the world and different climates. Discovering which varieties work best in a specific part of the world requires some research. Often nurseries or gardening publications will be able to advise as to which types of tomato plants have the most successful history of growing in a given location.

Many commercial brands of soil contain chemicals, so in order to grow tomatoes organically, an organic brand of soil will need to be purchased. Organic soil, unlike inorganic types, does not use chemicals to try to deter pests and make plants grow more rapidly. Organic soil instead uses compost and manure (from organically-fed animals) to do these jobs. The organic soil should be extremely dark, moist and fragrant. Organic soil can be more expensive than inorganic soil, and promotes slower, more natural growth of plants.

Organic tomatoes will need to be given organic fertilizer every other week to help them grow. Once they begin to bear fruit, they'll need fertilizer after every flush of tomatoes. Instead of being made from chemicals, organic fertilizers consist of plants, animals and minerals.

If the tomatoes are not being grown upside down, they will need support. Stakes, wire cages and trellises can provide necessary support as the tomato plants get too tall to support themselves. If the tomatoes are not supported somehow they will grow wild on the ground, which could cause them to attract pests and diseases.

Any type of tomato plant - organic or inorganic - will need plenty of water as it grows. The plants will need regular, frequent watering. Irregular watering could cause them to wilt.

Once the soil is warm, mulching under the tomatoes will help prevent weeds from growing. Mulching will also keep soil temperatures and water levels under control. Controlling water levels is critical to preventing blossom end rot, one of the diseases that may result from irregular watering.

One challenge faced when attempting to grow organic tomatoes is fending off pests. Typically, pests are warded off with chemical pesticides. But there are ways to defend against insects while still growing organically.

Pests like healthy plants. Therefore, one simple way to help defend an organic tomato garden from ins

ects is simply to keep the plants healthy. Plants that are too wet or too dry will attract more pests. Natural predators or pests will also keep them away. Ladybugs, birds, frogs and lizards will all kill pests if the garden has a source of water to attract them to it. Some other methods include sticky traps, barriers and plant collars.

Organic Vegetable Gardening For Beginners

To be successful at organic vegetable gardening you must draw up detailed plans. The soil is your first consideration; how to make it rich and fertile, and how to prepare it so harmful pests won't attack your vegetable garden. The two ways that organic vegetable gardening differs from conventional gardens is the usage of fertilizer and how to keep pests under control. Phosphorous, nitrogen and potassium are the three components essential to your organic garden.

For lush, green foliage you must have nitrogen. For strong roots and stems phosphorus is needed. And for the important protection from disease and brief cold snaps, potassium is a must. Let's call them the big three. The big three are available in commercial fertilizers however they are synthetic. In organic vegetable gardening the big three are added in a much different way.

Organic Fruit

The best way of enriching your soil is by compost. Dig some pits in your back yard to start your compost from kitchen refuse. Use things like pine needles, corn stalks, leaves, carrot tops, fruits or vegetables that have spoiled, manure, egg shells and coffee grinds. Some organic gardeners use weeds in their compost but I do not recommend this for obvious reasons. As the compost materials decompose they release bacteria and fungi into the soil that you are preparing. The bacteria and fungi convert nutrients like nitrogen to ammonia and nitrates that will be usable for your vegetables. Use substances such as seaweed, potash salts, tobacco stems and wood ash to help make potassium in your compost. By making your own compost, you are controlling the mixture and balance to achieve the right combination for your organic vegetable garden.

To be absolutely sure that your compost has completely broken down and is now offering up the right balance, start working it into the soil at least two weeks before you plan on planting.

The pH in the soil must be right for healthy plants. Test your soil, if it has a ph of 0 it is very acidic, while a 14 is extreme alkaline. Of course a seven indicates neutral soil. To raise the pH of the soil inexpensively use ground limestone. An additional benefit of the limestone is that it contains magnesium something that most soils lack. If, on the other hand, you have extreme alkaline soil use sulpher to bring the pH down.

Pest control in organic vegetable gardening is also different that conventional gardening. In many conventional beds gardeners wish to eradicate all pests with pesticides. Many in organic gardening only wish to keep the pest population down so to have a balance in the garden. Obviously, whenever possible, plant pest resistant vegetables. In order for harmful organisms to grow, they need bright sunlight so keep thick mulch around the plants to deny the organisms that needed sunlight and to help hold moisture into the ground. If you find you have a heavy infestation here is a natural pest control formula:

In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests.

Follow this tips and you are on your way to raising a healthy and plentiful organic vegetable garden.

Natural & Organic Fruit Tree Sprays

Fruit trees should be sprayed in early spring before the bud opens in order to kill overwintering insects/insect eggs nestled in the crevices of your fruit trees. However, in order to safeguard your health and that of the environment, consider using one of the environmentally safe natural or organic fruit tree sprays which are every bit as capable of killing overwintering insects and insect larvae. Any of the following organic and natural fruit tree sprays will do the job: a lime sulfur/horticultural oil mixture, a horticultural oil/water mixture, and a homemade spray made up of natural ingredients.

Organic Fruit Tree Sprays

Organic Fruit

The first type of organic fruit tree sprays, the lime sulfur/horticultural oil mixture, can sometimes be bought premixed, but you can also buy a kit and mix the two. The lime sulfur is a natural fungicide which kills dormant fungus spores or bacteria. The horticultural oil is used to smother all overwintering insects and/or the eggs.

This combination spray must be used early in the spring before the buds swell and break open; otherwise you risk burning the new leaf. Also it can be sprayed only if the temperature remains between 0 degrees Celsius (32 F) and 20 degrees Celsius (about 70 F) for at least 24 hours because the oil part of the spray needs time to smother insects or their eggs. A cold night will break down the oil before it has a chance to be effective. However if it happens to freeze after the 24 hour period, there is no harm done.

Spray when there is very little or no wind, and no rain, snow, or sleet in the forecast. Read instructions carefully and cover yourself well because it can be a messy job when you spray your tree from the top down until it drips. In addition, the lime sulphur has a strong smell, so wear clothes you can wash.

A second type of organic fruit tree sprays, the horticultural oil/water mixture, can be used not only in early spring but also throughout the summer as long as the spraying is done early in the morning when the weather is cooler and the tree has cooled off. This mixture is far less messy than the first one.

Natural Fruit Tree Spray

You can always opt out of this messiness by making your own mixture with natural ingredients from your kitchen cupboard or bought at a gardening center. One spray mixture which is easy to make and which can be used in the spring or at any time during the summer months includes liquid seaweed (found in plant nurseries) blackstrap molasses (the kind you use for cooking), apple cider vinegar, and Murphy soap - all added to a gallon of water.

The seaweed and the molasses not only fight fungal disease in the garden but also feed the plant through the leaves (called foliar feeding) especially if you are spraying really early in the morning when the leaf pores are still open.

You needn't worry about the molasses attracting bugs. The plants absorb the molasses instantly. Boom it's gone! The fruit trees just love it!

The acidity of the vinegar helps kill black spot on roses, powdery mildew, brown patch, and other nasty fungi.

So instead of spraying your fruit trees with poisonous insecticides/pesticides, you may want to consider using the dormant spray combination of lime sulfur and horticultural oil, the dormant horticultural oil/water mixture, or a spray made up of natural ingredients, a spray which not only smothers the insects/insect eggs and fights fungal diseases but also feeds the tree.

Uterine Fibroids - Feel Healthy - Have a Juice Clear Out

Why not try a juice clear out for a day or two?
3 stalks celery
1 whole cucumber
Handful spinach
5 leaves romaine lettuce
Add one green apple and one green pear.
Small piece of root ginger (enough to taste in juice)
Cleanses the digestive system. Good detoxifier.

First thing in the morning start with a green vegetable juice and then half hour or later, enjoy a large plate of melon or citrus juice and continue eating fruits until noon. If you are eating melon, make sure you eat that fruit on its own as it is a good cleanser and travels through the body system very rapidly and faster than any other fruit and is recommended by many juice experts. Once you have eaten the melon, leave at least 20 minutes before eating any other fruit.

Organic Fruit

At noon, drink a green vegetable juice - before you start your cleansing, do a forward planner. Make sure you have lots of fruits and vegetables so it would be beneficial to make a list of what you need before you shop. As mentioned above, always buy organic fruit and vegetables as they are less likely to have chemical fertilizers and pesticides and much better for you because none of the nutritional elements have been removed - therefore keeping all the enzymes intact.

Juice cleansing jumps starts a process that usually takes years to complete. Its not a way of life but your body can tell you how long it can maintain such a drastic step by making you very hungry - so you will have to stop the cleansing and re-start combining the juicing and eating the raw and living foods.

If you decide you would like to continue fasting for longer than a day or two, consult a health practitioner who is familiar with juicing and when you do fast, make sure you rest the body. If you feel you don't need to consult a practitioner the choice is yours.

Juicing is all about natural healing. Raw juicing replenishes lost vitamins, minerals and trace elements and it also helps to avoid degenerative diseases as well as energize, rejuvenate and regenerate your body.

Controlling Pests And Diseases The Organic Way - Crop Rotation

It is obvious that Pests & Diseases are found in every garden. Unfortunately, in reality we will never be able to get rid of every nasty entirely. What we need to do is be smart about how we manage them. Creating a balanced garden environment where natural checks and balances greatly reduce the likelihood of a major problem in an Organic Garden.

One of the biggest ways we can reduce Pests and diseases in the garden is through Crop rotation.

Organic Fruit

When the same plant is repeatedly grown in the same garden bed, pests and disease build up an immunity that enables them to survive within situations that would otherwise have killed them off.

Different crops of vegetables are moved through a series of beds in a logical sequence. This reduces the likelihood of a build up of pests and disease.

I recommend rotating between 5 Garden beds.

Bed 1 (Rotated to Bed 2)

Legume Crops: - Pease & Beans of all types.

Bed 2 (Rotated to Bed 3)

Root Crops: - Potatoes, Onions, Carrots & Beetroot

Bed 3 (Rotated to Bed 4)

Fruit Bearing Crops: - Tomatoes, Eggplant, Capsicum

Bed 4 (Rotated to Bed 5)

Foliage Crops: - Silverbeet, Pumpkin & Other Cucurbits

Bed 5 (Rotated to Bed 1)

Brassicas: - Cauliflower, Cabbages, Broccoli

This process should be rotated continuously throughout each season.

Legumes (Peas, Beans etc) have nitrogen producing nodules on their roots. This repairs depleted nitrogen from the soil. Legumes should always be cut off at ground level or dug under when the crops have finished.

Brassicas (cabbage, broccoli etc), on the other hand require that much nitrogen to grow, they actually deplete the soil from available nitrogen. Adding Brassicas to a Legume Bed is ideal. It would also be a good idea to grow a green manure crop (A legume crop that is dug under instead of harvested) during any off season in a brassica bed.

Allergic Reactions to Fruit and Vegetables Which are Annoying, Not Dangerous

When you talk about allergies for some time, eventually you will find people who tell you that they have an allergy from fruit and this can often be quite a wide ranging fruit allergy. A colleague said to me recently:

"I can't eat apples. I also can't eat pears, plums, cherries, peaches, and incidentally carrots, or celery can be the same as well at times. When I do try these, because I really do try to ignore it, my mouth within moments feels like it's burning, and my palate itches and it leasts a few minutes, so I resolve once gain to leave fruit alone. I have been to see the doctor several times and he says that I, amongst probably a few million people, have a condition called 'Oral Allergy Syndrome', which means that for me and so many others these tasty and most healthy of vegetables and fruits have to be avoided, at least when they are freshest."

Organic Fruit

This is a great shame and prevents a lot of healthy eating for sufferers. Allergy specialists estimate that 70 percent of people with allergic rhinitis, or hay fever, have some form of Oral Allergy Syndrome.

The big surprise is that many doctors haven't heard of it.

The root cause of the problem is normally the presence of fruit-pollen. Fruit-pollen syndrome as it's often called, is far less dangerous than the well known food allergies to milk, eggs, wheat products, and the best known of all of these is peanuts. (This has been due to our food processors in the past having cross contaminated small amounts of peanut into other products with some disastrous effects upon the unknowing sufferer, even at remarkably low peanut concentrations.

The medical profession refers to these food allergies which can have such big effects as "priority allergies", because they trigger systemic reactions and are more likely to induce a fatal response than other allergic forms.

A fruit allergy, can strike unexpectedly in adulthood, recently and before I had heard of fruit allergies, I was surprised when my friend Sarah Relph, who is in her thirties, said:

"I suddenly appear to have developed an allergy to fruit: apples, ... But, oddly enough, the allergy is only to FRESH fruit; not preserved, canned, or cooked, and only to fruit that is grown in the country where I now live."

A recent post on a forum also reads:

" ... I am a 34 year old Asian male, I seem to be allergic to fruits, like apples, cherries, plums, peaches (also itchy lips, and throat). And the worst seem to be the freshest."

To the allergy expert this is readily explainable, and not really as perverse as many sufferers see it.

The fresher the fruit, the more pollen will be present, and it is this pollen on the fruit that in a sufferer their body's antibodies within their immune system are unable to differentiate from an infectious agent and see the fruit as being an invasive infection, giving rise to the symptoms described.

Quite quickly the proteins on the surface of these fruits will oxidise, and once they do the allergic reaction they can produce tends to go as well.

There are ways for sufferers still to eat fresh fruit. For example, placing the fruit is a microwave for about 30 seconds (not long enough to really heat it, but enough to bring the incidence of unoxidised viable pollen spores down by orders of magnitude compared with when fresh.

Organic Food History and Current Trends

Farming practices used before the 1900's are classed as organic. It was only after this that added chemicals such as urea and DDT were brought into farming - previous to this, farmers didn't have the knowledge and simply put, were happy enough with things as they were; as most of us today would be. After all, home grown food is often the nicest, most tasty food we put on our plates.

For some reason, during the 1960's and 1970's the concept of organic food became a separate entity to the 'normal' food we were then buying. Consumers had been effectively duped into believing that what they were buying, was food as nature intended, it not appreciating that the chemicals which were added during growth of the 'normal stuff' were what actually made the food abnormal in the first place.

Organic Fruit

Rachel Carson, a prominent writer, biologist and ecologist established public awareness of these issues via 'Silent Spring', a book she wrote which basically brought about major controversy on the use of agricultural chemicals and synthetic pesticides in particular. As a direct result of this book, and the growing concern over the use of farm chemicals which consumers were suddenly more aware of, chemical regulation procedures were put into place, and when the demand for organically grown food rose, so did the need for further regulatory procedures to cut down on the ecologically destructive and toxic chemicals.

Today, organic food is finally reaching an all time high of acceptance from consumers, so its demand is increasing - more 'organically acceptable' agricultural procedures are gaining momentum, and it seems even though it is more expensive than chemically treated foodstuffs, it is healthier, and it is that health factor which is winning the battle against chemically treated consumables.

A creation of a whole new set of ideas about organic standards which first came into debate in 1990, took over ten years to refine to relative perfection, and they will still evolve as new practices come into force. It is by these standards now that, organic food and other products such as wool in the USA is grown/gathered.

All of this though begs the questions - why can't farmers just grow food without chemicals at all, why does it need regulation, and why were chemicals introduced into grown food and other consumables in the first place; I think you already know the answer though, and that's money.

In this modern technological age where farmers are in direct competition between each other to gain the bigger contracts of the supermarkets and other food retailers, they have to be cheap. They simply can't grow the vegetables (for example) as fast as the grocery store can sell them, so they have to resort to other methods to keep up, or did do at least until the consumers voice began to ring out strong and true.

Organic food is no longer a small niche in the food desires of Americans; it is becoming what everyone wants. Everyone now wants and feels the need to eat in a more healthy fashion with the onset of so many new medical conditions which prove costly as it is; a little more expense to eat something grown without strong use of chemicals (which could 'theoretically' make it worse) might mean a saving health-wise instead.

The organic food trend of today is growing ever-stronger, and not just for vegetables even though at one point organic purchases totalled over 40% of all organic buys. Meat and fish which is organically produced is still at the lowest of all food purchases, but is moving up the chain too. Dairy, bread and grain, beverages and snacks are all becoming more and more popular.

Today there are more Organic supermarkets popping up everywhere, sometimes in certain areas more than others - almost as though people in one state are more 'organic' than others but on the whole it is more of a blanket change than just a few people trying to eat in a healthier way, the amount of people eating organically is far more substantial than most realize. Suddenly people have more choice, and this is obviously because the demand is there. The world is finally going organic, and with any luck the bigger grocery store chains will have to meet this demand, rather than flood the market with low-cost chemically treated alternatives.

Organic Fruit - A Double Dose of Fruit Health Benefits

Throughout the history of the world, food has been grown using techniques described as organic. However, in the last 100 years conventional farming methods have increasingly relied on the use manufactured compounds such as pesticides and fertilizers, as well as using genetically modified seed. Organic fruits refer to produce grown using natural techniques with no chemicals or with only organic compounds.

Many countries have strict certification rules for labeling fruits and vegetables as organic. The United States, Canada and the European Union are some examples. In the United States, certification is outlined by the state departments of agriculture and conditions include no irradiation, no genetic modification, and most pesticides and fertilizers prohibited. The certification process can be quite costly, particularly for small farmers, which is one of the main reasons conventional fruit farming is still used by the majority of growers.

Organic Fruit

Studies done on organically grown fruit have revealed several benefits in terms of nutrient content, flavor and shelf life. According to research, organic strawberries have higher levels of antioxidants and ascorbic acid. Their shelf life is longer and with certain varieties the flavor and sweetness was much better.

It is unfortunate that many organic products are more expensive (sometimes up to double in price) and less readily available than non-organic ones. Fortunately though, organic foods are now becoming more affordable as consumers are increasingly health conscious and searching for healthier food options.

Organic fruits can be found in many supermarkets and grocery stores, usually in a separate organic foods section. Open air farmer's markets are also another place to purchase them. Some individual small-scale farmers open up their orchards to members of the public to come and pick their own fruit for a small fee.

Other benefits of organic farming is that it's healthier for the environment, it reduces the emission of greenhouse gases that cause global warming, and it maintains the biodiversity of fruiting plants. In the latter case, many commercial farming systems have reduced our fruit options to just a few genetically modified varieties, meaning that many indigenous fruit species are in danger of going extinct.

Often times organic produce is grown by small, individual local farmers. Purchasing organic varieties helps to support local economies and reduce the pollution caused while transporting fruits over long distances by road or air.

Organic fruit are not necessarily free of pesticides, however it seems that less of the toxins are retained in the body from organic varieties. Studies done on children have shown that the pesticide levels in the urine of youngsters who ate mainly organically grown produce was five to seven times less than for those who ate fruit grown using conventional farming techniques. This is good news for parents who buy fruit for their children and weaning babies.

Some fruit have a higher tendency for pesticide residue, for example strawberries, apples, grapes, peaches, pears, cherries and nectarines. If you're wondering which organic fruit varieties you should select first, then these are the ones. Fruits such as pineapples, papaya, avocados, bananas, kiwi and mangoes generally have minimal pesticide residues in comparison to the non-organic varieties.

Permaculture Gardening: Learn How Easy It Is to Grow Fresh, Organic Produce

As a raw vegan living in Dubai, I became interested in permaculture gardening through my struggle to get fresh, organic fruit and vegetables.

The catalyst occurred when I stumbled across a video in which a born-and-bred conventional farmer investigated permaculture in Australia, and was ultimately convinced to convert part of her land into permaculture design.

Organic Fruit

Wow, I thought. What is this permaculture business?

Well, simply put permaculture gardening involves working with nature to produce a sustainable garden design.

It all started when Bill Mollison, a wildlife biologist, spent decades in the rainforests and deserts of Australia studying eco-systems, and witnessing their destruction.

He concluded that with the widespread use of conventional agriculture and the mechanisation of our food production, 70% of the world's soils have been destroyed and 40% of our water has been contaminated.

In our quest to feed the masses, agriculture itself had become a weapon against nature.

Together with one of his students, David Holmgren, he coined the word 'permaculture', a contraction of permanent agriculture' and 'permanent culture'.

Through observing natural forests, Mollison noted that plants naturally group themselves in a mutually-beneficial cluster. He built upon this idea to develop an approach to agriculture and community design that seeks to place elements together that support and sustain each other.

"The aim is to create systems that are ecologically sound and economically viable, which provide for their own needs, do not exploit or pollute, and are therefore sustainable in the long-term.

Permaculture uses the inherent qualities of plants and animals combined with the natural characteristics of landscapes and structures to provide a life-supporting system for city and country, using the smallest practical area".

Today, the principles of permaculture have taken root across the globe. From the deserts of the Kalahari to Israel's Arava Desert, the icy north of Scandinavia to the rainforests of South America, permaculture can be practiced in any kind of climate.

What's more, it has multifold applications: from practicing permaculture design on herb farms to transforming urban lots into gardens or even helping feed a family from an apartment balcony.

Even for a rookie such as myself, I knew I'd stumbled across something big. Perhaps something that could change the world, eliminating global issues such as poverty, hunger and waste.

No matter who you are, or what your income, whether you're a small-scale gardener or large-scale farmer, the benefits of growing fresh, organic and healthy food will extend to your family, your community, the earth and its animals.

Organic Food For the Perfect Dinner

Nothing can compare with the purity and unsurpassed taste and flavor of organic food. This is a food that makes you feel a whole lot better than those modified products scattered along the shelves in supermarkets. Organic meat coming from ecologically sustainable pastures where animals graze freely in the natural healthy environment - this is what makes the perfect choice of every housewife.

Are you tired of tasteless meat? Your meat rissoles are no longer popular with your family? It's high time to switch to the organic meat. Only organic beef can make the perfect savory steaks to treat your friends and relatives.

Organic Fruit

It goes without saying that organic food tastes much better than non-organic. Basically organic fruit and vegetables grow slowly, at their own pace, without getting chemical substances to speed up. Thus they have a low water content which contributes to their flavor, more profound and deep.

According to the research, food quality and natural flavor have come high on the list of people's priorities surpassing low prices. People start thinking about their health more than ever. Naturally organic food contains much more vitamins and other indispensable for our body minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and chromium. Non organic food leaves much to be desired in this respect. Moreover, containing nasty additives, GM food poses formidable threat to our future welfare. Potentially harmful additives are added to animal food to speed up their growth. Obviously the meat coming from these animals right to your dinner table is no good for you and your family. So, you can greatly reduce your exposure to harmful pesticides by eating only organic meat, fruit and vegetables.

Buying only organic food you will not only care about your own well-being, but for the animals as well. Organic farms have higher levels of animal welfare standards making sure cows, sheep and pigs are allowed to graze freely. Organic farming is also better for wildlife, causes lower pollution from sprays and produces less dangerous wastes.

More flavor, less health problems. The choice is evident.

Organic Or Non Organic?

Is it organic food always really a better option for your health than conventional food? Ok, so I think the reason why the majority of people buy organic food is, of course, because they want food free of strange chemicals, pesticides and similar. And that's a very very good reason.

But, there is another factor implied in the question of organically grown food:traditional intensive agriculture impacts heavily the soil. That causes a poorer microbial activity (bacteria and fungi) and as result the plants get less micro nutrients that you can eat. Less micro nutrients means less:

Organic Fruit

vitamins minerals antioxidants So, to pay a little bit more to get organic grown food usually worth it. But you may find out that sometimes the food you find in your grocery, even if is not labeled as organic, in fact it could be very close to it.

What do I mean by that? Simple, if the food is coming from the local small farm, it is very likely that the farmer is using far less chemical aids to grow his crops. So if it is not really organic, maybe it is very close to it. And, maybe, the only reason why it is not labelled as "organic" is because the local farmer has not gotten yet the legal requirement to do that.

To conclude, if the organic food you find in your store is coming from half way around the globe it worth a try to choose the local one. Try to talk with the local farmers and you'll have a clearer idea of what I'm talking about.

Organic Or Non Organic?

Why Do Organic Foods Cost More?

Organic foods cost more due to the high demand for them right now. Many people want to feed their families food that is as healthy as possible. Finding fresh fruits and vegetables that are organically grown can be difficult as not all supermarkets carry them. Plus these stores know that people are willing to pay more for the better quality so they can mark up the prices and increase that profit margin.

Of course organically grown food does cost more due to the way in which it is planted and harvested. Those additional costs though are in the way of caring for the food and for offering methods that aren't chemical related to protect them. Since more money is involved in making them it is reasonable that they will charge more for such products to recoup the time and money that they have invested in them.

Organic Fruit

In order to grow fresh fruits and vegetables you need farm land. The yield for organic foods is about 20% less than with conventional methods. That means the land is used to produce less food than it would otherwise. To make up for that loss of product the prices are higher so that a good profit can still be made in the end.

The cost of the processing and to get the certification from the USDA also needs to be carefully looked at. These costs are eventually passed along to the consumers as well. Even though people growing organic foods want to do the right thing for people and the environment they also have another objective. They want to make a profit from the food that they successfully grow and sell.

Yet many consumers out there wonder why organic foods don't cost less. A ton of money is being saved so that they don't pay for herbicides and pesticides. Keep in mind though that there is more processing by hand that must be done for organic foods and that can really add up fast to more expenses than those chemicals.

While it is understandable that we want to consume food that is good for us, that higher price is what often prevents people from doing so. There have been many surveys conducted that indicate consumers are passing over organic foods due to the fact that they can't justify the addition 10% to 40% markup on them.

Another factor is that great deal of the crops can be lost when you are involved in organic farming. This is due to the fact that you can't always get the food sources to grow and you can't' always protect them against pests and insects. The insurance for such organic foods is unbelievably high. These are just a few of the types of additional costs that are involved.

It can be an expensive process to change over a conventional farm to organic methods as well. The process can take about five years to complete. The money lost in the mean time has to be factored in somewhere along the line. So when you buy organic foods you are paying for some of these processing costs too that you didn't realize had to be covered by the farmer before he could start to make organic foods and a profit from them.

The good news though is that the producers of organic foods continue to grow around the world. Hopefully there will be new ideas implemented that make production more affordable. Then that savings can also be passed along to the consumers. No one out there is getting rich right now from the prices that the charge for organic foods. They are making a living but not taking advantage.

Why Do Organic Foods Cost More?

Type 2 Diabetes - Will Organic Fruit And Vegetables Really Help Ward Off Diabetes Symptoms?

Type 2 diabetes is almost completely preventable and eating more fresh vegetables is often the advice given to diabetics at diagnosis. Although this is the age of organic eating this does not mean the fresh fruit and vegetables in your eating plan need to be organic.

It almost looks like the hippies of old have finally won, and the world is saying, "peace, love and if you don't grow it yourself you shouldn't be eating it in the first place". Needless to say, that slogan wouldn't be catchy enough for most t-shirts. But regardless, a lot of people have been completely sold on the notion of eating organic produce. But believe it or not, a lot of people don't realize a lot of things about organic food they really should. And not just because it's expensive, but also because this has an effect on your health. Seriously, when your health is at stake, you really can't know too much.

Organic Fruit

For one thing, did you know that no studies have ever shown that organic produce is any healthier, or contributes in any way to better health, than regular fresh produce? While it is more emotionally appealing to think that organic food must be better for you because they don't use chemical pesticides on it, the fact is that these pesticides are washed and cooked off before you eat them anyway. Even eating fruits off of trees where pesticides were used makes absolutely no difference, as far as the medical and scientific communities have been able to identify. That is the main reason why there is no legal definition for organic produce... and thus, there is little to no capacity to verify one way or the next.

Taking a step back, all "organic" means is that the growing methods used did not include any chemical pesticides. While chemicals such as DDT are now illegal for anyone to use, modern farmers have been using all sorts of other pesticides for well over a hundred years. And probably they are going to continue using all manner of weed killing, bug killing and whatever other types of pesticides that are necessary to make sure their crops grow up healthy enough so they can be sold at market.

There is not even a legal requirement for a food product to be called "organic" on its packaging, so there isn't even any proof (or any way to find out), of the validity of such a claim.

Whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes or not, there is no evidence to suggest that eating organically grown products is any healthier than eating any other freshly grown goods. While it's admirable people want to do whatever it takes to make their bodies work better, this is a little on the misguided side. Focus on eating fresh foods with low glycemic indexes and glycemic loads, and stay active.

Benefits of Using Organic Grass Fertilizer to Your Family and Pets

Whether or not we admit it, organic grass fertilizer has been widely used by people who prefer organic products. And to those who haven't resorted to this fertilizer type, they are still being criticized for their lack of concern on the harmful effects of using chemical based fertilizers. Now, it is time we dive deeper into the topic and thoroughly discuss just how good this type of fertilizer is.

Nowadays, almost everyone is aware of just how good organic fertilizers are. Even so, there still remains a number of people who opt for using chemical based fertilizers. One of the key reasons for this is because they cannot afford to spend money on organic products. Even though they are aware that natural products are better for everyone, they also know that organic usually means more expensive.

But thinking about it, using organic grass fertilizer is a lot more economical as compared to chemically based products. This is because in the end, our family and pets are safe when we use organic products. Not only does a chemically based fertilizer have a harmful effect on the plants we grow, there are also some microbial compounds that can get inhaled by those who are in the area. As a result, it is more expensive to treat our family members and pets once the harmful effects of the compounds they have inhaled start to settle in their bodies.

Putting aside the health risk of using chemical fertilizers, there are still a number of advantages as to why using organic lawn products is preferred. With regards to the aesthetic appeal of your lawn, organically treated lawns look much better as compared to the chemically treated lawns. If you use organic products, your plants will look greener and healthier. At the same time, the ingredients in organic products enable roots to grow much deeper. As a result of deeper roots, your grass and plants become more resistant to drought. This is also less expensive later on since you no longer need heavy watering and mowing your lawn all the time!

The reason why organic grass fertilizer is the preferred product to be used on lawns is because it is natural. This means it does not have any negative and harmful side effects to your grass, family, pets, and to the environment. Organic fertilizer has been made from worm castings, manure, guano (waste products of bats), sewage, slurry, and seaweed. Aside from these, natural minerals that come from mine rock phosphate, limestone, and potash sulfate are also used. Since these ingredients do not contain any harmful chemicals, they do not have any negative effects to anyone's health.

When you use organic grass fertilizer, you can let your kids and pets play in your lawn without worrying about their health. There have been several pets that have died because they have swallowed unhealthy grass. By turning to organic fertilizer, we can avoid that from happening to our beloved pets!

Self Sufficient Living is Great For Any Lifestyle

Self sufficient living has so many benefits to it, it is a wonder we do not live like this already. One of the greatest benefits of living self sufficiently is the free power we get as well as the organic food and clothing.

Self sufficient living works because we do everything ourselves or at least we do most of the work ourselves, we grow our own food organically, without pesticides, we grow our own cotton, hemp and make our own clothes.

Organic Fruit

We make water, solar or wind generators to power all our electronics, we build our houses out of the earth, stone and wood and we drive high efficiency, high economical cars.

The idea behind self sufficient living is that we cut down as much dependency as we can on outside sources, so if something goes wrong in the world we are not so bad off. If the world economy crashed and we were practicing self-sufficiency, we would be much better off.

We would have plenty of organic food, water and clothing, we would have land and free energy to power all our electronics. The only thing we might have problems with would be our vehicle if the price of gas went up very high.

Take for example, wind powered generators, if you live in a part of the country that has a lot of wind, then investing in a wind powered generator would be excellent. You could be producing enough energy for all your electric applications such as your TV, refrigerator, stove, lights, stereo, computer, hot water heater and more.

Another great energy system is solar power. If you live in an area that gets lots of sun, say like a tropical place or somewhere down south, then a solar generator might be better. These generators create electricity directly from the sun and can power many home applications, cutting the energy bill significantly.

Finely we have water-power, this type of energy generator works by using the energy of a stream or waterfall. Not everyone has running water nearby, but if you do have a stream, creek or waterfall on your property, you could use one of these generators to produce power. These small generators are very efficient and a few of them can power a full home.

Another great aspect of self sufficient living is organic gardening. There is nothing to compare with tasting food grown by yourself, food picked strait from your own garden has the most flavorful taste, is the best for our health and it is almost free.

If, however you cannot grow your own garden, then buying organic food is the next best thing. Organic food grown by someone else tastes just as good and is just as healthy for you as growing it yourself.
