Acai Berry - The Magic Fruit

Acai berry, a healthy and nutritious fruit, became popular to the western world in the late 1990s. This fruit has been used for thousands of years by the natives of Amazon to cure many diseases. The Amazon, famous for having the largest rainforest in the world, is home to a third of the world's animal and plant species. Acai is only one of the fruits that have been lately discovered from the huge confines of Amazon.

Acai berry was found to have natural antioxidant properties, as well as being a natural cholesterol controller. The natives of Amazon knew these properties and also found that regular consumption of this fruit helped build the immune system, fight toxins, protect the heart, and improve vision. Acai berry also served as a popular energy food for the natives of Amazon.

When introduced into the western world, Acai berry was realized to be a natural way to regain lost energy. Soon, this fruit was blended with other juice drinks, such as soda. In addition, this fruit was used to prevent any heath problems that could arise due to the fatty and fast food eaten daily. Full of energy, Acai berry has the distinct taste of berries and is very rich in proteins, fiber, vitamin E, minerals, and essential Omega oils. These Omega oils are instrumental in reducing the cholesterol content in our body. The antioxidant properties in Acai berry help in preventing cancer.

Today, the juice from Acai berries has become an integral part of consumable products, such as bars and health snacks and is sold across gyms and spas. Organic freeze dried acai berry supplements are recommended by many because freeze-dried acai berry extracts have the highest concentrations of antioxidants and according to acai reviews, not everyone prefers the taste of acai juice.

The Urge to Go Healthy

Every second a new baby is born but in that same second, someone else's life has also ended. Perhaps it is the balance of life but if there was something we could do about it, shouldn't we at least try?

Most diseases we acquire are mainly due to poor nutrition and abuse of our bodies. Without the right elements in our body, our resistance and immune system won't be strong enough to ward off harmful bacteria. An example would be a simple cough that might lead to a more complicated disease just because the person has deficiency in vitamins and minerals which he can get just by eating fruits and vegetables.

Organic Fruit

Fortunately, people's attitude towards health awareness has changed over time. Now, more and more people are careful of what they eat and how it can help or destroy the body. The fruit and vegetable aisle in supermarkets are now being frequented by shoppers rather than junk foods. Some would even request fruit and veg delivery to their very homes. People are growing more conscious of the food that they eat. In fact, even the pesticides that are used in the manufacturing of fruits and vegetables are being criticized. This gave rise to organic produce in all parts of the world including Australia.

The need for organic food in Australia is growing day after day. People are constantly in search for healthier alternatives for everything - especially produce which explains why organic vegetables and fruit are a hit nowadays. Organic produce are crops that have been produced with no pesticides and other chemicals involved. They are grown the natural way thus they come out healthier because the nutrients and minerals are untouched and intact. Every bite of these organic fruit & veg products come with abundance in nutrients that that particular produce naturally has. For example, carrots are rich in beta-carotene and with organic carrots; you get the full amount of beta-carotene that a carrot should possess.

Nothing beats the natural way. This one goes out to produce as well. Change your fruit and vegetable delivery to organic deliveries now. You certainly won't regret it.

The Urge to Go Healthy

Organic Delivered offers fruit and vegetables planted, cultivated and harvested in the most natural way without the use of any pesticides and other harmful chemicals. http://www.OrganicDelivered.com.au delivers your chosen fruit and vegetables right at your doorstep.

Benefits of Organic Peaches

Peaches prevent constipation, combats cancer, helps stop strokes, aids digestion, helps hemorrhoids, boosts your immune system, peaches are diuretic, depurative and detoxifying. Peaches are wonderful to eat on a weight - loss program. Peaches are also high in vitamin A and C. Organic peaches are even better for you. The USDA Organic program must certify any product with the USDA Organic label. Farms that follow the USDA guidelines for Organic farming do so without the use of harmful chemicals. Flash freezing traps nutrients and phytochemicals immediately after harvest while the produce is at its peak. Peaches are more than 80 percent water and are a good source of dietary fiber. This combination makes them a perfect remedy for constipation.

One medium size peach has 7 percent of the dietary fiber you need each day. Adding fruits like peaches to your diet can keep you regular and prevent straining during bowel movements. Straining has been linked to hemorrhoids, diverticular disease, hiatal hernia and even varicose veins. Peaches are low in calories and one 100 g peach provides almost three quarters of the daily vitamin C requirement. The fruit has a gentle laxative effect. Peaches are also rich in iron and potassium.

Strikes out Cancer

A study in China showed that men and women who ate peaches more than twice a week had less risk of developing cancers of the mouth than those who did not eat peaches. This study focused on oral cancer, but peaches, like other fruits and vegetables with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, are a good way to steer clear of all kinds of cancers. As you can see the benefits of peaches are enormous. That is why we produce an organic fruit drink with 100% whey protein isolate http://www.zoejuice.com All of our fruit is certified USDA organic. Organic Fruit Products - How to Avoid Stress & Toxic Pressure on Body

Oganic Fruit Products:

The main benefit of eating Organic fruit products is to reduce toxic stress on your body and avoiding chemicals used in farm fields to fast track growth of vegetables and fruits.

Organic Fruit

By eating organic fruit products you are helping your body to be fit and healthy and same time you are helping nature in reducing the stress on environment. Help Environment by going organic.

Now the question is if eating organic products is good for health then why people are not becoming organic friendly? Well, you will find many answers to this one question. Firstly organic products come with price. If you compare organic products with non organic products flooded in grocery shops, you will find price of organic products are more costly then non organic products. Typically organic products cost 20-40 percent more then non organic products.

Since they are costly, very few farmers adopt organic farming. Cultivating organic products means less produce produced in one season. This cut down the farmer's commercial interest. On a non organic farm, farmers use chemicals and miracle growth chemicals to fast track the growth of produce.

There are ways to cut down your budget for shopping organic fruit products. First never dash to market for seasons first fruits. Wait for couple of weeks, you will see 50 percent drop in produce price. Reason is very simple, by second or third week many farmers will send produce to market and there will be plenty of organic fruits available and that brings demand down.

Secondly being organic does not mean you have to buy all what you eat in daily life. This is possible only for riches. You can make list of vegetables and fruits which you and your family would like to eat. Select which one you really want to buy as organic. I prefer organic milk, Organic cereal, organic chicken and few selected organic fruits. This way I am able to keep my shopping in budget. Moreover these items are some thing you eat mostly on daily basis.

Another option is to tie up with local farmer for monthly supply. This can cut down price by 20-30 percent as compared to same products in grocery stores. If farm fields are not close by then checkout wholesale grocery outlets, buying supply from wholesale vendor can also reduce some percentage of organic fruit price. All these option do work in reducing the price for organic fruit products.

To know more about organic products, recopies and deals join organic web forums, these forums will have good information about stores, farms and whole stores.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Drink Acai?

How old do you have to be for vegetables to be beneficial to your body? Hopefully you answer that there would not be a specific age requirement. The main thing to understand here is that acai berry is all natural and should not be considered a medication that needs to be measured per body mass or per age. There is nothing more nutritious than a balanced diet; we make our kids eat the daily recommended values of different vitamins and minerals, we even help them drink their daily dosage of vitamins. Trust this, a natural, organic fruit like acai berry would do no harm to the body no matter how old that person is.

Historically, acai berries have been part and parcel of a particular people's diet - Brazilians and native Amzonians have always incorporated the acai berry I their everyday meals. They even use acai fruits to make beverages. Additionally, these people also harvest acai berries for their medicinal properties. This means that they have always known of the goodness of acai berry and since it is one of their staple food, no one can question that the children, the teenagers, the adults, and the elderly all partake in acai fruit harvests.

You may be asking this question because you are afraid if the possible side effects of acai; the thrust is that there are none. Acai berry is all goodness and the main reason why you may be associating it with negative effects is because it has been used as an ingredient for different supplements and of course diet pills. Bear in mind though, that acai was most likely added to these diet pills to make people think that the diet pills are safe and effective. What does it tell you if acai is used in such way? It was put there to make the product look good.

Acai berry is safe; just make sure that you get all natural acai food supplements like juices for younger kids. Some diet pills include mix acai essence with gurana and this may not be suitable for younger people. Gurana, another substance that was recently imported from, again, the Amazon, is syrup that is considered a stimulant and a suppressant. Pure acai juice is essentially just extract from a beneficial and healthy plant. You do not have to worry about adverse side effects for you or for your teenager. The only effects acai berry have are to keep you fit, healthy, and yes, even young.

Acai berry fruits are known for their many health benefits - these include a stronger immune system, more improved mental focus, better bodily functions, and overall health. If you are wondering whether it would be better to just eat the fruits and not all of these juices and supplements. You are actually right. The only disadvantage is that acai only grows naturally in the Amazon and Brazil and it would take more than a day before the crates reach us. Acai fruit loses most of its goodness in 24 hours, this is why it is essential that they are already processed fresh after picking. This process - called freeze drying - is the only way to keep the healthy substances of the acai intact.

Growing Fruit in Greenhouses

Did you know you could successfully grow all kinds of fruit in a greenhouse? Most gardeners know that they can grow strawberries and tomatoes in a greenhouse, but did you know you could also successfully grow melons, grapes, peaches, lemons, nectarines, and citrus fruits too?

There are several varieties of grapes that can be grown in a greenhouse environment including Black Hamburgh and Buckland Sweetwater. They are ideal grapes for growing in cooler conditions. Gardeners need to pay particular attention to giving the vines open, free-draining soil and to prevent waterlogged soils. They will need to support young plants, as they are first becoming established. Side-shoots that are produced in the summer will need to be pruned in the following winter by cutting them back to their last bud (spur pruning). A good quality fertilizer and sufficient water that reaches to all of the roots are essential for good quality grapes.

Organic Fruit

Peaches and nectarines can be grown successfully in both the cool greenhouse and the heated greenhouse. The Humboldt and the Pine Apple nectarine varieties fit the cold greenhouse. The Peregrine grows great in a greenhouse as well as the Hale's Early variety as long as there is another variety close by for pollination.

Peaches and nectarines grown in a greenhouse will tend to have compact root systems so they will need to be watered frequently during their growing season and fed once the tree is established. You will need to transfer pollen from flower to flower using a small fine brush. You will need to do this manual pollination everyday during the flowering period. The humidity of the greenhouse should be raised during the flowering season. When the fruits are about the size of walnuts you may need to thin them to about two fruits per foot of branch.

Citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and tangerines can all be grown successfully in the greenhouse environment.

Growing any kind of fruit in the greenhouse is challenging as conditions must be just right and pests and disease can be problems that need conquering but it can be done. Take heart though as there are several books on greenhouse gardening that cover growing fruits in greenhouses including: Greenhouse Gardening: Step by Step to Growing Success (Crowood Gardening Guide) by Jonathan Edwards (Paperback - Aug 1, 1996), Growing Fruit (RHS Encyclopedia of Practical Gardening) by Harry Baker (Paperback - Mar 1, 2001) - Illustrated, and Grow fruit in your greenhouse: Grapes, peaches, nectarines, figs and others by George E Whitehead (Unknown Binding - 1970).

Controlling Pests And Diseases The Organic Way - Crop Rotation

It is obvious that Pests & Diseases are found in every garden. Unfortunately, in reality we will never be able to get rid of every nasty entirely. What we need to do is be smart about how we manage them. Creating a balanced garden environment where natural checks and balances greatly reduce the likelihood of a major problem in an Organic Garden.

One of the biggest ways we can reduce Pests and diseases in the garden is through Crop rotation.

When the same plant is repeatedly grown in the same garden bed, pests and disease build up an immunity that enables them to survive within situations that would otherwise have killed them off.

Different crops of vegetables are moved through a series of beds in a logical sequence. This reduces the likelihood of a build up of pests and disease.

I recommend rotating between 5 Garden beds.

Bed 1 (Rotated to Bed 2)

Legume Crops: - Pease & Beans of all types.

Bed 2 (Rotated to Bed 3)

Root Crops: - Potatoes, Onions, Carrots & Beetroot

Bed 3 (Rotated to Bed 4)

Fruit Bearing Crops: - Tomatoes, Eggplant, Capsicum

Bed 4 (Rotated to Bed 5)

Foliage Crops: - Silverbeet, Pumpkin & Other Cucurbits

Bed 5 (Rotated to Bed 1)

Brassicas: - Cauliflower, Cabbages, Broccoli

This process should be rotated continuously throughout each season.

Legumes (Peas, Beans etc) have nitrogen producing nodules on their roots. This repairs depleted nitrogen from the soil. Legumes should always be cut off at ground level or dug under when the crops have finished.

Brassicas (cabbage, broccoli etc), on the other hand require that much nitrogen to grow, they actually deplete the soil from available nitrogen. Adding Brassicas to a Legume Bed is ideal. It would also be a good idea to grow a green manure crop (A legume crop that is dug under instead of harvested) during any off season in a brassica bed.

An Organic Gardening Guide - Two Things it Should Not Overlook

Many people are interested in finding an organic gardening guide, these days. And these are not people who want to go back to the 1800's either. These are modern day, computer literate, mini-van families who simply want to live a healthier life.  And, they have seen the value in growing organic vegetables.

Much of this happens to be because they have heard of facts such as this: "40% more antioxidants are found in organic fruit and vegetables than in non-organic."  Today, people are simply becoming more health conscious. Some of that might be driven by the US Department of Agriculture.  The word is out that mineral levels in fruits, and vegetables have declined in commercially produced foods since the 1940's.  That's enough to cause a lot of families to think more critically about what goes into their bodies.

Organic Fruit

So now, little gardens are springing up behind people's homes all over the world. Dedicated organic gardeners are looking for everything from natural compost to natural pest control.

What exactly is this type of gardening? Well, basically it is gardening that is not dependent on chemicals, but instead, things that come from living matter.  It is making a garden that is not helped from synthetic (man made) products.  It is a garden that does not depend on you purchasing fertilizer or pesticides, which can be harmful.

In fact, if you are looking for an organic gardening guide, then you would be wise to make sure it teaches about the two critical aspects of gardening: Not having chemically based fertilizers and not having chemically based pesticides.

You need to replace the fertilizer with organic gardening compost.  And, you need to replace the pesticides with a new concept: organic gardening pest control.

I will plan to write about each of these in future articles.  For now, be sure any natural gardening guide contains information about these two important areas.

How to Make Healthy Green Smoothies

Green smoothies are simply a fruit smoothie with fresh or powdered greens added. I love green smoothies and they are huge part of what I eat every day. On a typical day, I might make 1- 2 quarts of green smoothie in the morning and drink most of it for breakfast. Friends often drink 4 quarts a day. If I don't finish it or make extra, it provides a great mid-afternoon energy boost.

Green Smoothies are easy to make, very nutrient-dense and one of the best ways to increase your greens intake significantly. They also crowd out the desire to eat less nutritious foods. You can make them very sweet, with the right mix of fruit and greens, so they satisfy sweet cravings and provide the real nutrition that your body is craving.

The only thing you need to make great green smoothies is a blender and access to fresh fruits and green vegetables (green powders can be a substitute when traveling or when fresh greens are unavailable). You can use a typical low cost blender that you already own or purchase at any store. However, if you develop the healthy habit of making your green smoothies daily, you will eventually burn out the blender. I learned the hard way and burned up three blenders over two years' time before finally buying a commercial grade Vita-Mix blender.

But don't let the lack of a great blender stop you from starting - simply use what you have, borrow one, buy a used one, or the best quality one that you can afford. Just use it!

Basic Green Smoothie Recipe:

2 cups filtered water
2 bananas
2 oranges
1 apple
1 lemon (optional)
1/2 inch chunk fresh ginger (optional)
1/2 - 1 head of romaine, spinach, chard, beet greens, or kale

Add the water. Then fill your blender half way with fruit and the rest of the way with greens. Depending on the power of your blender, you may need to add slowly while blending. Blend for 1-2 minutes, or until very smooth.

Filtered water and organic fruit and greens are best - but again, do the best you can with what you have. Apples and berries are more important to select organic than are peeled citrus and bananas. Chop the fruit and ginger - a stronger blender can take larger chunks. The orange and lemon can be juiced or just peeled with seeds removed. Apples and ginger can be left unpeeled for extra nutrients.

This basic recipe can be made into endless variations based on your own taste and the availability of ingredients.

You can use any fresh or frozen (unsweetened) fruits and any greens.
Nutrient-packed herbs like parsley and cilantro are also great additions in your green smoothies.
Spinach and romaine are the best greens to try first as they are more mild than kale or beet greens.
Carrot tops and dandelion greens are very nutritious and deeply cleansing greens.
Fruit juices are another option in your green smoothies if you cannot access enough fresh fruit or want to add some variety. Use only 100% juice without added sweeteners and organic when possible. Bottled juices are pasteurized (heated) so their fruit sugar is more concentrated and they do not maintain the same amount of nutrients as fresh or frozen fruit.
Try adding avocado, celery, tomatoes, carrots or beets.
Add spirulina, hemp powder, ground flax, bee pollen, maca, or other superfoods to boost the protein and the nourishing/cleansing effect of your green smoothies.

When you first make your smoothies, you'll probably need a higher ratio of fruit to greens. Make it sweet enough that you will enjoy drinking it, but as "green" as you can handle. Over time you will be able to lessen the amount of fruit and increase the amount and variety of greens.

The Great Organic Paradox - Fruits, Vegetables, Money and Pesticides

The great organic paradox is one of those human-society errors which points out our human ability to fool ourselves, and see as far as the tip of our noses. What is considered to be regular fruit and vegetable produce is sold year round, and quite cheaply all over the western world. Organic produce on the other hand, is available only when the specific fruit or vegetable are on season, and the price is usually a little if not a lot higher.

While the industry of the first world has moved "forward" towards mass-production agriculture, it has become the norm to use pesticides on all of our produce. Our apples are full of it, and so are our apple cakes and cider. Our wheat is full of It, and so does our cakes and bread. The first part of the organic paradox is that pesticide-full produce is accepted as the normal food, and we buy it and eat it without giving it a second thought. But it is not the normal produce at all. In nature, all these fruits and vegetables grow without the use of pesticides, and have been for thousands of years. So, we are calling the pesticide-full vegetables with the simple name of - "vegetables", while the real vegetables are called "Organic". If we had anything at all between our ears, we would have it the other way around, where we name organic produce as - "fruits" or "Vegetables", and the pesticide-full produce with its earned name "Poisoned food", or "Eat-at-your-own-risk vegetables". Unfortunately, the industry has a much better deal keeping it as it is.

Organic Fruit

The fact that we pay more for less is another part of this paradox. With our fruits and vegetables, we pay more for the organic produce, in order to get a "diet" version with no pesticides. We like the fruit, but the pesticides is too much. Most of us will still buy the "regular" fruits and vegetables when organic is not to be found, or when it is a bit too expansive. When buying organic, we are not getting more, we are getting less. Less pesticides, less genetically modified cells, less radiation and less poison into our body. Yes, we are paying more to get less, while that new produce is actually the return-to-fashion of the real produce, the one that is supposed to be available out there as nature intended.

Pesticides pose a real threat to our health, a fact that has been proved by many researches. The main reason why we are still buying "regular" pesticide-full produce is that we, as humans, find it hard to see past the tips of our noses, and non-direct damages are hard for us to digest. Touch fire, and the pain is immediate. You learn quick and try avoid touching fire again. Pesticide damage is the result of residue that is collected slowly but surely in our body, as it tries to fight the synthesized materials we put in it. Our body is strong, and can deal with a little at a time. But eventually, sooner or later, illnesses start to appear.

The effects of pesticides on the human body are complex, and many researches are conducted on the subject. I for one, do not need any research to see the logic of it. Anything that is man made is not supposed to be eaten, as humans were not created by humans, and we are a part of a system - The world. Spraying a man made poison on our food and then eating it just do not make sense. Using genetically modified cells from a pig or a cow, putting them in our tomato and then eating it just do not make sense. You do not need to be a scientist to see the error there.

The human paradox is at least as wide as the western society, and the production of pesticides is as crazy as the produce of guns, chemical weapons and plastic bags. We know it is wrong, but we keep on doing it. I hope knowing that eating pesticide-full produce is wrong will make all of us go back to the source and avoid it a hundred percent.

The Great Organic Paradox - Fruits, Vegetables, Money and Pesticides

I have studied the art of health via a healthy nutrition for many years. I have seen the healing effects having the right diet has on our system, both first hand and on others, and can recommend eating only organic food without a second thought. Is Organic Food Worth the Price?

Is organic produce worth the extra cost? Are there really harmful chemicals in the foods we buy at the grocery store?

The Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit public health group, went through nearly 100,000 produce pesticide reports from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and found that common fruits and vegetables we eat are treated with as many as 33-67 different pesticides. Simply washing these foods under the tap does not safely remove this chemical residue. The list that was compiled, of highly contaminated foods, is comprised of fruits and vegetables that were tested after they had been washed with a USDA high-power pressure water system.

Since most of us can't afford, or don't have access to, all organic foods, it's important to know when it's most important to chose organic and when it may not be as critical. You can reduce your exposure to pesticides by as much as 80% if you avoid the most contaminated foods.

For example, if you're eating non-organic celery, you could be consuming 67 different chemicals along with it. Celery is one of the "Dirty Dozen" foods, the most dangerous non-organic fruits and vegetables to eat.

The Dirty Dozen:

Celery
Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Blueberries
Nectarines
Bell peppers
Spinach
Kale
Cherries
Potatoes
Grapes

The Clean 15: (not necessary to spend the extra money to buy organic)

Onions
Avocados
Sweet corn
Pineapples
Mango
Sweet peas
Asparagus
Kiwi fruit
Cabbage
Eggplant
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Grapefruit
Sweet potatoes
Sweet onions

Other foods to consider eating organic are meat, poultry and dairy products. Since these foods have a higher fat content, and toxins are stored in fat cells, it's important to be sure you're eating "clean" animal product foods.

Foods that are labeled organic have certain criteria that they must meet. Knowing these criteria help to give confidence that the food you are consuming will help to enhance your health, not destroy it.

Organic foods must meet these criteria:

Animals have not been treated with: antibiotics, growth hormones, or feed made from animal byproducts.

Animals must have been fed organic feed for at least a year.

Animals must have access to the outdoors.

Food hasn't been genetically modified or irradiated.

Fertilizer does not contain sewage sludge or synthetic ingredients.

Produce hasn't been contaminated with synthetic chemicals used as pesticides.

An Apple A Day - Celebrate Our Favourite Fruit!

This week I managed to scrump a particularly perfect wind-fallen apple, and share it with my daughters. The first juicy crunch transported me back to my childhood garden where my swing and rope ladder swung in the shade of the apple trees. My mum and I would feast on fresh apples every day during apple-season, taking for granted the intense lemon-apple-sherbet taste of a newly picked fruit. At the end of the summer we would visit a house on the edge of our town where a lady sold tiny red Beauty of Bath apples from her garden; the taste was sublime, but the gift of each fruit was the red flesh under the skin, fading to the delicate pink of apple blossom; each bite revealing a new palette of colour.

Childhood reminiscences aside, the shock of the taste of the freshly scrumped apple was that it was so different to a supermarket apple. At home we had a bag of organic apples from New Zealand which the kids chose (against my protestations about air-freighting food). There was no comparison; the supermarket apple had little taste, no crunch, no pleasant texture, it was simply a little sweet, but tasteless. The foraged apple was bursting with flavour, texture and goodness. Apples, along with all produce are so much tastier at their freshest. A supermarket apple languishing under a sign proclaiming 'fresh fruit' may be 6 months to a year old. Many apples are treated with a gas which prevents them from ripening or decaying, and imported apples may spend nine months in storage, and a further three months in a warehouse before they get to you. There are concerns that one of the gases used l-methylcyclopropene may be carcinogenic in large doses.

The UK apple season has arrived, and there is really no excuse to buy imported Apples, although you will still find most supermarkets are mostly selling imports. Waitrose however sells the largest amount of UK apples, and also has bought up fruit which would not match up to the usual supermarket standard of perfection, in an attempt to promote more natural produce, and support British farmers and growers who have been so heavily struck by the terrible UK weather.

Apples are known to contain chemical residues. One pesticide, Chlorpyifos, banned in the States in 2000 in garden products and seriously restricted in farming, is still approved for use on UK apples despite serious health concerns. In 2005 the governmental Pesticides Residues Committee tested 63 Apple samples finding residues on all but 7 (none on the organic apples tested), with all the EU apples containing residues, and two samples containing levels unsafe for children. Apples can also be treated with a wax to make them look appetizing, but could contain fungicides; you may choose to wash and wipe apples well, possibly peeling them. If you find this concerning, ensure that all baby foods and children's fruit is organic, and free from dangerous residues.

You will be able to find good UK apples at your local farmers market; or from your local box scheme. If you are driving through the countryside over the next month, keep your eyes peeled for roadside sellers, but put to one side the image of the supermarket apple; real apples have lumps and bumps and character, but will smell divine. There are hundreds of different apple varieties available in the UK, including some fabulously named varieties such as Bastard Rough Coat, Falstaff, St Edmunds Pippin, and Slack-my Girdle. In our local farmers market in Bristol, Days Cottage sell a pick and mix of exciting varieties to try, including later in the season apples which will last over winter, different sorts of cookers, and eaters with a huge array of different tastes and qualities. Also available in season are quinces which will scent the room you keep them in with a sublime, mellow aroma. You will also find pressed apple juices, and ciders.

Although Apples will mellow after they are picked, I can't resist apples straight from a tree; we have two small apple trees in pots which I bought for my daughters first birthday (her name is Apple Blossom) which means that they have come with us each time we move, and were suitable for our tiny yard when she was a baby. Apple trees will also feed the bees in apple blossom time, as well as being breath-takingly beautiful. Alternatively, you can go out foraging for fresh apples from now until winter. You may find some apple trees in uncared for urban environments, or in country hedges or on the edge of woodland. Great places to look for fruit trees are alongside canals and disused railway tracks, where discarded apple cores, carelessly thrown from a train window or boat many years ago, have sprouted into unknown varieties of tree.

Last year we found an apple tree next to a Cornish beach, bursting with tiny, tasty, green fruit. We stuffed our pockets with them and feasted on them for a couple of days; pulling one out of a pocket each time we fancied a snack. Even fruit which looks misshapen or damaged can be prepared and bits cut out, but watch out for wasps when you are collecting wind falls! Windfalls will make an excellent chutney which you can store or give as presents at Christmas. At this time of year the apple marries perfectly with the blackberry for pies, crumbles and cobblers. For a more figure-friendly crumble, substitute half the crumble mixture for jumbo oats and serve with natural yoghurt in stead of cream. Another of my favourites is baked apples and pears with cheese as an after dinner treat, or meal. Halve apples and pears, and lightly butter, placing them in a baking tin. Bake on a moderate temperature for 20 minutes, or until the fruit is cooked but not too soft. Serve with mature cheddar or other cheese and rough oat cakes, slicing the fruit thinly over the cheese and biscuit. Eat along side a glass of traditional organic cider.

The apple is probably our most popular and versatile fruit, and yet we have become content to munch those nasty, tasteless pale imitations available in supermarkets across the land. Celebrate the huge variety of colours, tastes, and smells, and search out real flavour and goodness in your local varieties. Take a long walk through the late-summer countryside this weekend, and make sure you take a basket; you may find a bounty which will amaze you, and fill your tummy when you get home foot-sore and hungry.

Happy scrumping!

Which Foods Cause Cellulite?

Poor diet and lack of exercise are the biggest causes of cellulite. So you need to detox your body and maintain an anti-cellulite diet as well as taking up some form of exercise to eliminate cellulite for good.

Eating a well-balanced diet and avoiding fat-laden, stodgy convenience foods is a good start to curing cellulite. And it's easy to change your diet and avoid the wrong foods if you know what they are.

Organic Fruit

Some of the foods to avoid in our diet are obvious while others are not only not so obvious, but are rarely given any consideration at all.

So firstly, the obvious foods to avoid if you want to not only get rid of cellulite, but prevent more cellulite building up are:

all fried and roasted foods
alcohol
solid fats (i.e. butter)
chocolate
coffee
sugary drinks
full-fat cheese
high-fat salad dressings
pizza
red meat
sugary breakfast cereals
peanut butter
pies, tarts and pastries.

If you stick to a low-fat diet you can't go wrong when it comes to eating the right foods that will reduce and remove cellulite.

Some not-so-obvious things to avoid in your diet are insecticides sprayed onto the skin of unwashed fruit, and chemicals that are absorbed into artificially fertilized vegetables.

Try eating only organic fruit and vegetables or grow your own. Fruit and vegetable growing can be a very enjoyable, productive and beneficial hobby. And you can feed a family for a whole week on only a few vegetables.

One of the biggest saboteurs when it comes to removing cellulite, is salt. It's also called sodium when listed on packaged food ingredients and it is to be avoided at all costs. If you can't cut it out of your diet completely, then at least cut it down and use less. Or go to your local health store and buy some low-sodium salt. Cellulite is water dense and sodium is a highly effective water retainer. It encourages the toxins in your body to mass together and absorb fluid and so it aggravates and encourages the spread of cellulite. So avoid sodium wherever possible, eat a low-fat, low-calorie diet and make your food work for you instead of against you.

Organic Cherries

Choose Organic Cherries

"Life is just a bowl of cherries; don't take it serious, it's mysterious."
- Bob Fosse

Organic Fruit

Life certainly is mysterious, but unfortunately so is that bowl full of cherries Mr. Fosse so innocently referred to many years ago, unless you choose organic cherries. Today, most cherries seem to be "mysteriously" laced with names like Boscalid, Bifenthrin, Pyraclostrobin, Quinoxyfen, and many other hard to pronounce words that do not sound the least bit palpable. Cherries can provide us with valuable vitamins and nutrients but the chemicals they are entangled with somehow spoil my appetite. They are being touted as a "super fruit" because of their health benefits. Benefits such as to easing the relentless pain from arthritis and gout, helping to diminish the risk factors associated with heart disease, even aiding in the prevention of diabetes and various cancers. Beyond the medicinal aid, cherries can also help you get a good night's sleep, for they contain melatonin, a hormone secreted by the pineal gland that helps to regulate sleep. I certainly do not dispute these lofty claims, for I contend that Mother Nature has provided us with an ample medicine cabinet, what I question is why must we sheathe these benefits with chemicals?

Controversy continues to surround pesticides and their ill effects. Some folks contend that the vitamin benefit outweighs the harmful effects of the toxins our fruits and vegetables deliver. I search intently for organic produce and work hard to grow as much as I can, but sometimes, I am at the mercy of the Food and Drug Administration. I have for a long time, been familiar with the Dirty Dozen - a list of the most chemically treated fruits and vegetables put out by the Environmental Working Group. It is a shopping list of sorts that advises consumers against buying from this alleged Dirty Dozen; these fruits and vegetables are better bought as organics. The current list from the EWG is as follows: celery, peaches, strawberries, apples, blueberries, nectarines, bell peppers, spinach, carrots, cherries, kale/collard greens, potatoes, grapes (imported).I am disheartened to report that according to the EWG cherries grown in the United States, primarily in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah, have approximately three times the pesticide residue than cherries grown out of this country and subsequently imported to this country for our consumption.

I want to give my cherries a quick rinse and eat them whole and feel the benefits Nature intended. If I were here before the extensive use of pesticides, that is exactly what I would be able to do and the Dirty Dozen list would not even be compiled. But, alas, I am here now and the cherries grown here in the good ole US of A are toxic. I wonder what those beautiful and fragrant cherry blossoms must smell like after a heavy dose of chemicals is sprayed on them and then packed in ascetically pleasing containers and sold to the American public and we consume them hoping to make ourselves healthy and to starve off any lurking cancer cells. Hmmmmm. Enjoy the health benefits of this super food by choosing organic cherries.

Organic Gardening - Growing Onions in You Home Vegetable Garden

One of the oldest know vegetables is the onion. It is commonly used in a variety of recipes in the kitchens around the world and can be purchased in many different way, from fresh, canned, chopped, dehydrated, frozen and even pickled.

Growing onions can be done from seed, transplants or sets. When choosing seed to start your onions, you will have a larger choice of what you can plant, but can take five months for the seedlings to mature enough to be transplanted and they are more susceptible to disease.

Transplants are onion plants that were started from seed that same season. They can be purchased at some local garden centers, depending on where you live and can be purchased from on line sources. They are usually sold in bunches. They have a shorter growing season than seeds do but can have the same problems like disease.

Sets are the most common way that onions are planted in the home garden and are sold at most local garden centers. They are no more than an immature bulb. These sets are started from seed by sowing the seeds tightly together to create a very thick, tight growing crop of seedlings. This results in a stunted plant growth that will produce a small bulb. These small bulbs is what is sold as sets to be planted the next growing season. When purchasing your sets, keep in mind that they should be about 1/2 inch in diameter and solid, soft small bulbs will not produce a good mature onion, even over size sets that are bigger than 1/2 inch usually wont do good.

When choosing the variety of onion you want to grow, there is one thing that needs to be considered. Onions have what is called day length requirements. Some need 13 to 16 hours of daylight and others only need 12 hours. Choose a variety that is best suitable for your area.

Onions will grow best in a raised garden bed with a good healthy soil structure and plenty of compost or composted manure mixed in and drains well. The soil should have a fairly neutral ph level of between 6 and7.When planting seeds the soil needs to be fluffy or very loose.

Sow seeds directly into the garden bed thickly and cover with a 1/2 inch of fine soil. If you mix radish seeds in the same area they will serve two purposes, deter root maggots and help mark the area where the onion seeds were planted. Once the seedlings start to grow you can start to thin them to about 1 inch apart and then in about a month thin them to 6 inches apart. When you thin them this second time you will want to pull back some of the soil around the bulb to expose the top and sides, this is a great way to induce the development of the bulb.

When planting transplants you want to space then 4 to 6 inches apart and about 2 inches deep.If you are planning on harvesting the onions young then you will want to use the closer 4 inch spacing.

Sets are the third method of planting onions. When purchasing sets you can figure that one pound is enough to plant a fifty foot row. Trench your rows out about 2 inches deep and place the sets with the stem end up. This is the one thing that you will need to watch for when planting. Once you have the sets in place cover with a good garden soil and maintain then with the same methods as transplants.

Time to get ready to harvest your onions is when you see the tops start to turn yellow. At this time you want to bend the greens over horizontally, this will stop the sap from flowing through the stem and put all the plants energy into the maturing bulb. A couple days after you do this you will see the tips starting to turn brown, it is time to pull the onion bulbs from the ground. Do this on a sunny day and lay the bulbs on the ground to dry. When laying the out cover the bulbs by laying the bulbs in a row and covering the next row with the greens . This will help to prevent sun scalding.

Reasons Why You Should Eat Organic Foods

Organic food is becoming more and more popular because of the innumerable profits we can gain if we incorporate serving of organic fruits and organic vegetables in our meals. These profits will even be of greater effects when we opt for these products.

Here is an inventory of the benefits eating these healthy food can do to you:

Organic Fruit

Raw organic food of seasonal fruit and vegetables are the best food. Nature is a very diligent provider. What nature gives us for the season to eat not only compensates for our comfort but will get us ready for the next. Example, juicy fruits which are normally rich in Vitamins A and C refreshes us in summer while boosting our immune systems for the coming of the cold seasons fall and winter.

Raw organic food must be eaten fresh. Take an apple as an example, when you cut it in two and eat one of the halves, leaving behind the other half somewhere, what happens to it? It gets unsightly and distasteful due to the loss of nutrients. But the other half which you ate tastes and looks good because all the nutrients keeping it that way are still together.

Raw organic food is your ultimate chlorophyll supply. Chlorophyll is best known to be components essential for a good production of red blood cells. In the process of artificial food preservation however, it is stripped off with other essential nutrients due to is property of inducing spoilage.

Raw organic food is your ultimate supplier of natural enzymes. Surely, our bodies are capable of producing enzymes to aid its processes. But, the enzymes you can find especially in organic fruits and organic vegetables are better as they are good catalysts for the human body's manufacture of its enzymes.

Raw organic food drives you to chew up your food. Chewing does you a lot of good. If you take time to chew your food, it will take less time for your digestive tract to deal with it. Chewing also encourages better nutrient absorption as the sole focus of you digestive tract is now on absorbing than churning. Organic vegetables are delightfully crisp and thus encourages you to let your food linger in your mouth longer while being chewed, for it to be run down smoothly afterwards. By doing this, you get to condition your tongue to its taste, and thereby making you used to it.

Raw organic food is produced in an environmental-friendly manner. Organic soil has definitely no chemical content other than natural occurring ones, so they are definitely safe for you and for the earth. Especially for locally grown food products, you can expect to have them without the excessive packaging material which would serve to protect them on travel. Also, you can spare the environment from food importing-related carbon emissions. Not to mention all the money you are keeping inside your locality by purchasing these local food items.

See, so much profit awaits you if you indulge in going for a healthy appetite with organic food. Indulge no, be fit and of course, the environment benefits too.

Organic Fruit

Some people maintain organic fruit is better for you than regular fruit, and some believe that it even tastes better. Organic fruit is grown using organic gardening and farming methods. Methods often differ from farmer to farmer, but the one thing that is consistent is that organic farmers don't use pesticides or other chemicals on their crops. Instead, they use natural means.

Organic Fruit Health Benefits

Organic Fruit

Fruit is simply good for you, even if it isn't organic. However, growing fruit organically strengthens the plant's natural defenses. If the fruit is sprayed with chemicals, it has no need to develop these natural defense mechanisms against disease and insects. These natural defenses translate to added nutrition for your body.

Organic Fruit is Chemical Free

Also, the absence of chemicals is also benefits your body. There is some controversy surrounding the use of chemicals in farming and your overall health. Some believe that they harm the body and others believe that the effects are negligible. Either way, organic fruit is free of these chemicals so it is a non-issue.

Purchasing Organic Fruit

As little as ten years ago, it was difficult finding high quality organic produce. Now, there are markets and co-ops all over the country who specialize in providing organic fruit to the public. Mainstream supermarkets are also starting to include organic fruit in their produce sections. Don't be afraid if you see a splotch or slight blemish on the surface of the fruit's skin. This means that the farmer didn't use chemicals to help prevent them from forming. The blemishes are harmless.

Growing Organic Fruit

You can also grow your own organic fruit. Before you begin, make sure you research proper planting methods and how to care for them. Organic gardening involves using special fertilizers, weeding, maintaining an organic compost pile, and testing the soil to make sure it is at the proper PH level.

Organic fruit is better for both your body and the environment. Farmers use methods that are friendlier to the earth, and the lack of chemicals in the organic fruit benefits your body.

Tips For Shopping For Organic Foods

You may have made up your mind that you would like to buy organic foods. They don't have herbicides or pesticides in them so that is nice to know. The way in which they are grown is also a benefit to the environment so it is a choice that allows you to cut down the pollution that you contribute as well. Here are some tips that will make shopping for organic foods much easier for you.

You need to buy the fresh fruits and vegetables in the days right before you will eat them. They don't contain any types of preservatives so they won't last as long. You don't want to pay for food that rots before you can eat it so be prepared. You may find that stopping at the market every couple of days for them is inconvenient but that is a choice you will have to make.

It is also a good idea to ask where you shop what days of the week they get fresh shipments of these organic items for the best selection. That way you aren't in danger of the foods only lasting you a day or two after you get them home. Some of the farm markets will have a standing order for you too if you go there on a regular basis for the same items. They can pick the best of the crop for you in order to ensure you will continue being a repeat customer.

You always want to take the time to read the labels and to know what they mean. Some products are 100% organic and others are 95%. Those that contain organic materials can be up to 70% organic. Many that claim to be all natural though aren't organic because of the amount of salt and sugar that they contain. Look for a label from the USDA before you buy them.

While you will pay more for organic foods, you should still take the time to compare prices. By reading the ads for many grocery stores you can save money on the foods that you really want to buy. This is important if you are on a budget for your grocery shopping as most of us are. Sometimes you can get discounts from farm markets if you are a weekly customer there so take advantage of any such offers that they may extend to you.

If you can't afford all of the organic foods that you want decide which ones are the best for you to buy right now. For example you can decide if the meats organically grown are more important to you than the eggs or the apples. You can also change your menu to offer you more money to pay for organic foods in all the categories that you would like to. It can take time to reorganize but once you do though it will become a process that you can continue with all the time.

Many supermarkets also offer their own brands now of organic foods. They are every bit as good as the top name brands. However, they will sell them for a lower price. Don't assume that you aren't getting the same great quality though. The value doesn't have to be associated with the price tag.

On a side note, even though organic foods don't have any chemicals on them you still need to take them home and wash them before consuming. You don't know what has occurred with them during shipping. While they should be perfectly safe it is just a precaution that you should always be in the habit of doing.

Healthy Eating For Kids

A lot of toddlers and small children can be very finicky eaters. As a parent, you may find it difficult to convince your younger kids to eat healthy foods. It is especially important for your kids to eat healthy if they have a common skin condition such as eczema. The foods they eat affect their health, their skin, attitude, and energy. You may try bribing your kids to eat with toys, have endless battles at the dinner table, or give in and feed them cookies and candy. If you want your kids to eat healthy, here are some tips to get them to eat the foods that are good for them.

One of the best tips as a parent is to start your children young on healthy eating. When they are babies, feed them organic fruit and vegetable purees. When they start drinking juice, buy organic brands that do not add sugars or artificial substances. Your child will develop a pallet for healthy eating starting from the time they are a baby. It will be easier for you to feed your kids healthy fruits and vegetables. If you start feeding them sweet juices, processed foods, or candy than it can be hard later on to encourage them to eat healthier foods.

Organic Fruit

On the other hand, it is never too late to start eating healthy and organic if you and your kids are not already. Another great tip to get your kids to eat right is to involve them in the kitchen while you are cooking and grocery shopping. Encourage them to help you prepare dinner or snacks and to pick out food in the produce section. The produce section in the grocery store is a great place to teach your kids about healthy eating by naming fruits and vegetables. You can also teach them math and colors with the bright colored produce.

How you prepare food can make a difference when you introduce healthy food or encourage your kids to eat. When you are preparing snacks, you can cut fruit in fun shapes or prepare vegetables like finger foods. When you are serving vegetables, sometimes it will help if you have dip or dressing. You can also serve apple slices with organic peanut butter or cheese, and it tastes really good. It can help if you let your kids choose what they want for a snack too. You can limit their choices to a few things such as fruit, vegetables, or cheese and crackers. If you have other healthy snack ideas you can have that as a choice as well.

Having your kitchen filled with healthy foods will set a good example, and your kids will see that you are a family of healthy eaters. If you have processed foods that are high in sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial ingredients you should replace the items with healthy organic products. Have your fridge filled with fruits and vegetables and raw milk and cheeses.

How to Relieve Common Cold Symptoms: Food Therapy

The Common Cold, an infectious virus that doesn't seem to have to cure, well, that's the bad news. The good news is the common cold seems to magically disappear after 7 to 10 days. But do you really want to suffer for 7 - 10 days? The chances are it's going to start feeling like 7 - 10 years after a day or two. Fortunately, there are ways to relieve its symptoms but, it's not going to be through medicine, it's going to be done using water, fruits, vegetables and a little bit of chicken.

1. The Chicken Soup

- The chicken soup is good not only for the soul but also for the common cold. Scientific research claims that chicken soup relieves nasal congestion by slowing down the white blood cells that trigger inflammation of the cells this means, it can also help with that sore throat. You probably have a family recipe for the chicken soup, go with that and here's a little secret: Make your Chicken Soup a tad bit spicy and add a little Bok Choi. Green leafy vegetables are good sources of Vitamin C.

2. The Lemon Juice

- Freshly squeezed and this is serious, it HAS to be freshly squeezed. It'll give your system the Vitamin C in needs to boost your immune system. If you can find Calamondin oranges also know as Chinese oranges also known as acid oranges, anyway it has many names but technically it looks like a small orange, start making some juice. A good recipe would be 3 Calamondin Oranges or lemon, add warm water, a tablespoon of honey, stir and it's ready to drink.

3. Bottled Water Therapy

- Hydrate yourself! This will thin out the mucus, prevent dehydration because of the fever and, will help you sweat. Sweating is your body's way of removing toxins as well as cooling you down.

4. The Gargle

- But what do I gargle, you ask? Well here's a little secret, a teaspoon of salt, a tablespoon of vinegar, add water... about half the glass and, stir. Gargle for 30 seconds.

5. Rest a lot

- One of the body's ways of healing itself naturally is resting. Sleeping is a good thing, when we sleep our body's natural fixing mechanisms kick in to action but like everything else they have punch cards. Sleeping from 10pm to 6am is their 8 hour work day so, let them go to work.

Well now, there's one more family secret to share with you, go for organic fruits. Organic fruits don't have chemicals that can harm your body in the long run. Also, think about giving employees organic fruit gift baskets as an appreciation gift, showing a job well done! This helps to maintain a healthier work force and they'll think you're a great boss too!

Other than that, it is highly recommended to stay away from people with colds and wash your hands regularly especially during the cold and flu season - it's mainly transmitted through physical contact...a dirty hand to eye to nose! Oh, and one last thing to keep in mind...antibiotics have no affect on the common cold, in fact they may cause more harm than good. Please talk to your doctor about what's best for you!

Organic Herb Gardening

Have you been thinking of growing an herb garden or a planting a few of your favorite herbs in a windowsill planter or in pots on the back sun porch for easy access in cooking? If you haven't gardened before you may not have thought much about soil condition, fertilizer, or pest control. Before you plant, take a little time to learn what you'll need to know to grow your herbs organically.

It doesn't make much sense to plant an herb garden with the goal of growing healthy and tasty herbs if you're going to use synthetic chemicals like synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Organic herb gardening means what the name says; growing your herbs in naturally enriched soil without the use of toxic chemicals.

Organic Fruit

But how does one naturally enrich soil health? There are a number of ways: compost application, rotating your crops, using green manure, application of natural fertilizers and pesticides, and using mulch. The more healthy the soil, the more healthy your herbs will be. Taking time to learn and utilize natural organic herb gardening tips is easy and you will feel better about the herbs you put in your body if they are chemical free. You will also be doing your part to help the environment which is everyone's responsibility.

What are the basic steps toward healthy organic herb gardening?

1.) Compost. I cannot stress enough the importance of compost to develop healthy nutrient rich soil. The more the better. Compost feeds the soil, not the plants and is very important as the plants draw out from the soil the nutrients they need for proper growth and development. You can buy organic compost or make it yourself.

2.) Organic fertilizers. A great fertilizer to help boost nitrogen and other micronutrients is fish emulsion. Follow the instructions on the label. It adds a powerful punch to herb growth. There are other organic fertilizers on the market as well.

3.) Organic pest control. An insecticidal soap solution is my first line of defense when I see that soft bodied pests have moved in. However, you don't want to get rid of the beneficial pests if you can help it. Plant daisies, rosemary and mint to attract helpful bugs that will eat the other harmful pests. Keep your organic herb garden well weeded to prevent the attraction of additional pests.

4.) Rotating your crops and adding mulch in addition to compost will also help keep soil healthy. Healthy soil equals healthy plants and less problems to try and fix later.

Organic herb gardening is a relaxing and enjoyable endeavor. The satisfaction of growing your own healthful, vitamin rich herbs for yourself and your family is reward enough. But you will also receive the pleasure of knowing that the herbs you add to your meals or use to make teas, jellies, vinegars or home remedies were not grown in chemically altered soil or sprinkled with toxic fertilizers or pesticides. Organic herb gardening helps your health, the environment, saves you money at the grocery store and adds beauty to your home.

Why Do Organic Foods Cost More?

Organic foods cost more due to the high demand for them right now. Many people want to feed their families food that is as healthy as possible. Finding fresh fruits and vegetables that are organically grown can be difficult as not all supermarkets carry them. Plus these stores know that people are willing to pay more for the better quality so they can mark up the prices and increase that profit margin.

Of course organically grown food does cost more due to the way in which it is planted and harvested. Those additional costs though are in the way of caring for the food and for offering methods that aren't chemical related to protect them. Since more money is involved in making them it is reasonable that they will charge more for such products to recoup the time and money that they have invested in them.

In order to grow fresh fruits and vegetables you need farm land. The yield for organic foods is about 20% less than with conventional methods. That means the land is used to produce less food than it would otherwise. To make up for that loss of product the prices are higher so that a good profit can still be made in the end.

The cost of the processing and to get the certification from the USDA also needs to be carefully looked at. These costs are eventually passed along to the consumers as well. Even though people growing organic foods want to do the right thing for people and the environment they also have another objective. They want to make a profit from the food that they successfully grow and sell.

Yet many consumers out there wonder why organic foods don't cost less. A ton of money is being saved so that they don't pay for herbicides and pesticides. Keep in mind though that there is more processing by hand that must be done for organic foods and that can really add up fast to more expenses than those chemicals.

While it is understandable that we want to consume food that is good for us, that higher price is what often prevents people from doing so. There have been many surveys conducted that indicate consumers are passing over organic foods due to the fact that they can't justify the addition 10% to 40% markup on them.

Another factor is that great deal of the crops can be lost when you are involved in organic farming. This is due to the fact that you can't always get the food sources to grow and you can't' always protect them against pests and insects. The insurance for such organic foods is unbelievably high. These are just a few of the types of additional costs that are involved.

It can be an expensive process to change over a conventional farm to organic methods as well. The process can take about five years to complete. The money lost in the mean time has to be factored in somewhere along the line. So when you buy organic foods you are paying for some of these processing costs too that you didn't realize had to be covered by the farmer before he could start to make organic foods and a profit from them.

The good news though is that the producers of organic foods continue to grow around the world. Hopefully there will be new ideas implemented that make production more affordable. Then that savings can also be passed along to the consumers. No one out there is getting rich right now from the prices that the charge for organic foods. They are making a living but not taking advantage.
