Fifty years ago it was not uncommon for urban Peruvians to have a vegetable garden and raise poultry at home. These healthy, home-grown products were used to prepare nutritious meals comprised of fresh eggs, vegetables, fruits. As the globe became more "developed" large farming operations became the norm, while rural farming declined. Industrial farms often use powerful insecticides, chemicals, and hormones to mass-produce the food we find in grocery stores.
