The Benefits of Organic Fruit Juice

Fruits make up an essential part of our daily diet. One of the best ways to get part of your daily intake is to drink fruit juice. Juice makes it easy to take in all or part of your daily intake.

However fruit juice is only as nutritious as the fresh produce that go into the juice. These days with mass farming and hydroponics it is often hard to know where the produce that goes into your drink comes from. Manufacturers are not impelled to disclose what sort of herbicide and pesticides they use on their crops, so we as the consumers are left to take the chance. The effects on herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers that are ingested through fruits on our bodies are widely unknown as alot of the more recent chemicals used on crops have only been around for several years and their long term health effects are not well documented. The use of chemicals on cash crops is basically to control insects pests, fungal diseases and weeds. They are effective in controlling those problems and are used on a large scale, but at what cost?

Organic Fruit

Recently there has been a strong movement into organic farming. Organic farming essentially means that no man made chemicals are used on the crops. This often means that more work needs to go into the product to make them economically viable. For example in terms of preparing nutrient rich soil, rather than using chemical fertilisers on low nutrient soil which makes farming easier but which also results in a lesser grade product.

Anyone that grows their own vegetables at home without chemicals knows the difference in quality between supermarket and homegrown fruit. Supermarket purchased tomatoes for example, in the last few years, really only vaguely resemble what a true tomato should be. Often they are lacking in colour, smell and flavour, as if sometimes it seems they have been 'engineered' to maximise size and weight at the cost of nutritional content and flavour. Whereas a good home grown tomato should have a very strong delicious tomato smell without even breaking the skin, they should be positively bursting with flavour and be firm to the touch which makes them a lot easier to cut into slabs when cooking. Not only that but they will have substantially greater nutritional value.

In order to get the most out of the fruit juice you drink it is really worth trying to buy organically certified produce. Organic certification is an industry standard that guarantees that no chemicals have been used and no compromises have been made on quality or flavour.
